Mathilde “Tillie” Hoszouski of Vulcan, Alberta passed away Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 87 years.
Tillie was born December 2, 1915 at Regina Saskatchewan to Fergenan and Mary Bromberger. She grew up in Bateman, Saskatchewan and attended a country school. She moved to many places in Southern Saskatchewan and Winnipeg where she worked as a housekeeper. Tillie returned home near Regina to help with thrashing. She met and married Mahlon Hirst who had been working in Vancouver in the ship yards and came out with a thrashing crew in 1943. They resided in Vancouver for a few years and then moved to Barrhead, Alberta, first to a rented farm and later purchased their own farm. Due to Mahlom’s illness, they sold the farm after 33 years and moved into town. Tillie began working at the school as a janitor until retiring in 1980. She moved to Vulcan in 1995, where she met and married John Hoszouski on April 28, 1998. Tillie’s enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and for a time she sang with the Sanderson’s Army.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband John Hoszouski of Vulcan, loving son Herb (Lois) Hirst of Mossleigh, 3 granddaughters Pearle Hirst of Parkland, Misty Hirst of High River and Nannette Hirst of Mossleigh, a sister-in-law Liz Bromberger of Barrhead, 6 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tillie was predeceased by her first husband Mahlon Hirst, five brothers John, George, Nick, Louis and Rudy, four sisters Lydia Mohr, Dora Stribe, Christiana Verbarugge and Lena Miller, and her parents.
Funeral service Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church with Lee Spice officiating.
Casket bearers Danny Rusnak, Tim Gibbs, Ryan Weeres, Jeff Ully, Gordon Christiansen and Bill Kiczula.
Internment Vulcan Cemetery.
