John Peter Hoszouski of Vulcan, Alberta passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005 at Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 92 years.
John was born at Herbert, Saskatchewan on February 10, 1913, the oldest of seven children, to Nikolai and Katrena Hoszouski. He was raised and educated on a homestead in the Golden Prairie area of Saskatchewan. John left Saskatchewan in 1933 and worked on numerous farms and ranches in Southern Alberta as a farmhand, carpenter and mechanic. He joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and fought in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. John was severely injured in October 1944 and was honorably discharged. He married Mary Evans on July 31, 1945 in Calgary.
John operated numerous garages, repair shops and service stations in Calgary and around Southern Alberta while raising his family. He was active in church ministry for many years. John spent his retirement years in Champion and Vulcan and was active in all phases of community life. He married Tillie Hirst in 1998.
John was known for his good cooking, canning and caring for neighbors and friends. He loved his cats. John also loved to camp and travel to visit friends and relatives in Southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. He always had a joke or funny story to tell. John maintained his wit and activity level until the end of his life.
Loving father of a daughter Irene (Art) Finkenbinder of Kobuk, Alaska, a son Truman (Sharon Fogerty) of Bragg Creek, five grandchildren Randy (Audra) Finkenbinder of Anchorage, Alaska, Travis (Samantha) Finkenbinder of Trapper Creek, Alaska, Jania (Bryan) Birmingham of Jacksonville, Florida, Isaac Finkenbinder of Anchorage, Alaska, Julie (Neil Tyler) Roy of Champion, seven great grandchildren, a brother Tony (Helen) of Spruce View, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his first wife Mary, his second wife Tillie, a daughter Margaret (Gerry) Kessler, an infant grand daughter, two sisters, three brothers and his parents.
Funeral service Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.
Casket Bearers Randy Finkenbinder, Travis Finkenbinder, Svend Christiansen, Gordon Christiansen, Gerald Hoszouski and Dale Hoszouski.
Internment Vulcan Cemetery.
