HOLOBOFF, Joseph “Joe” Eli   1925 – 2008

Holoboff , Joseph “Joe” Eli passed away June 15, 2008 at Bassano Hospital at the age of 83 years.

Joe was born February 7, 1925 at Brilliant, BC, the youngest of three living children, to Eli and Anna Holoboff.  When he was two, the family moved to Shouldice, Alberta.   Joe attended Shouldice School where he received all his education.  When he was finished school, Joe started farming with his father and worked as a hired hand for another farmer and later owned the BA Service Station in Shouldice.  In 1944 Joe met the love of his life, Anne Zaytsoff of Robson, BC.  They were married that same year and called three put-together granaries their home.  They lived on the farm until the fall of 1958 when they moved into Joe’s newly renovated home in Shouldice.  Years later, Joe and Anne returned to the farm  and continued to lived there until Anne’s passing in 1996 at which time Joe moved into the Peter Dawson Lodge then to the Playfair Lodge at Basanno where he resided until his passing.

Joe loved socializing and telling stories, especially about his childhood.  At a very young age he developed a love for horses.  He liked to ride them, break them and work with them.  His first experience with carpentry also began at a young age and he turned into an accomplished carpenter.  Joe was known for his bolo ties, guitar, accordion and his many, many camping trips but the most important thing to him was spending time with his family and friends.  Joe was a member of the Elks Club and a past member of the Arrowwood Lions Club.

Loving father of daughter Ruth (Tom) Williams of Arrowwood, daughter-in-law, Darbra Holoboff of Shouldice, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and  numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife Anne in 1996, two sons Tom in 1990 and Joseph Jr. in 2002, brother Fred, sister Ann and his parents.

Funeral service Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Arrowwood United Church  with Rev. Lee Spice officiating.

Casket bearers Judy Ashbacher, Darren Williams, Clark Williams, Jodi McCreadie, Dawn Holoboff, Leanne Holoboff, Lacey Holoboff and Rebecca Holoboff.

Interment Shouldice Cemetery.
