HOLOBOFF, FREDERICK ELI “FRED”, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT CALGARY, ALBERTA, MARCH 10, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 78 YEARS.
FRED WAS BORN NOVEMBER 10, 1918 AT BRILLIANT, BRITISH COLUMBIA, SON OF ELI AND ANNA HOLOBOFF, BROTHER TO ANNE PLANEDIN AND JOSEPH HOLOBOFF. HE MOVED WITH HIS PARENTS TO SHOULDICE, ALBERTA IN 1927 WHERE FRED ATTENDED SHOULDICE SCHOOL.
FRED CAME TO CALGARY IN 1943 AND WORKED FOR BURNS CANADA. IN 1945 HE BEGAN WORKING AT STANDEN’S SPRINGS LTD.,WHERE HE WORKED HARD TO LEARN THE TRADE OF MANUFACTURING SPRINGS AND TRAILER HITCHES. IN THE EARLY YEARS HE BOARDED IN A SMALL BEDROOM OWNED BY A SWEET OLD COUPLE WHO TREATED FRED AS THEIR OWN SON. DURING THE EVENINGS OF THE WORK WEEK, HE LED A VERY SIMPLE AND PRIVATE LIFE. WHEN FRIDAY ARRIVED, HIS PARENTS FARM IS WHERE HE HEADED. FRIDAY UPON FRIDAY HE WOULD ARRIVE AND SOMEONE WOULD JOURNEY FROM SHOULDICE TO GLEICHEN TO MEET THE TRAIN, BECAUSE UNCLE FRED WAS COMING HOME. WHAT A JOY IT WAS TO MEET THIS MAN WITH A SUIT AND “ALWAYS” A SPLASHY TIE. HE NEVER DID HE ARRIVE FROM THE CITY WITHOUT A TREAT FOR THE NIECES AND NEPHEWS, THAT WERE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING HIM. TO THEM, IT WAS ALWAYS A GUESSING GAME AND THEY WERE OVERJOYED BY WHAT HE WOULD BRING THEM.
FRED LOVED HIS FAMILY ESPECIALLY HIS GRANDCHILDREN AND SPENDING AS MUCH TIME AS HE COULD WITH THEM. HE MADE FRIENDS EASILY, WHERE EVER HE WENT. HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS A GOOD, GENTLE, COMPASSIONATE, KINDHEARTED, THOUGHTFUL, PERSON WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, WHO WOULD ALWAYS SPEAK FROM THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE. HE WAS A CARING PERSON WHO HAD A DEEP APPRECIATION FOR FAMILY, AND WAS AN AVID DOG LOVER.
IN HIS EARLY YEARS HE ENJOYED BOWLING, HE ALSO ENJOYED WATCHING OR LISTENING TO THE FLAMES HOCKEY AND STAMPEDERS FOOTBALL GAMES.
FRED MET MURIEL MACKENZIE EARLY IN 1962 AND IN DECEMBER OF THE SAME YEAR, HE MARRIED HER IN CALGARY, AND TOGETHER THEY HAVE CONTINUED TO RESIDE IN CALGARY.
FRED RETIRED FROM STANDEN’S IN 1980, HE SPENT MORE TIME TRAVELLING, ESPECIALLY TO RADIUM TO THE HOT POOL, GARDENING, VISITING WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY, PLAYING BINGO AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP HIS FAMILY AND NEIGHBOURS WHERE HE COULD. FRED WAS A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH # 275.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. MURIEL HOLOBOFF OF CALGARY, LOVING FATHER OF A DAUGHTER MARIE AND JERRY, GRANDFATHER OF JORDAN, EVAN AND KRISTOPHER ALL OF CALGARY. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY A BROTHER JOE HOLOBOFF OF SHOULDICE, A SISTER ANNE PLANEDIN OF CALGARY, MOTHER-IN- LAW MYRTLE MACKENZIE OF VAUXHALL, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS, AND MANY FRIENDS.
FREDERICK WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS, A BROTHER, A SISTER, BROTHER-IN-LAW, SISTER-IN-LAW, FATHER-IN-LAW AND NEPHEW.
VISITATION AT GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH, 2670 RADCLIF FE DR. S.E. , CALGARY ON MONDAY MARCH 17, 1997 AT 10:00 A.M. UNTIL 10:40 A.M., SERVICE TO FOLLOW, WITH REV. MORLEY SCHULTZ OFFICIATING.

THE FAMILY WISH TO EXTEND THEIR THANKS TO THE STAFF OF UNIT F8A AT THE BOW VALLEY CENTRE, WITH SPECIAL MENTION GIVEN TO NURSES, JOANNE AND CHERYL, FOR THEIR EXCELLENT SUPPORT AND ATTENTION GIVEN TO DAD.
