Marion Melissa Deborah Henry of Bassano, Alberta passed away March 25, 2004 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta at the age of 92 years.
Marion was born February 1, 1912 at Majorville, Alberta, second child of George and Anna Greaves. She attended Fawn Hill and Bassano Schools. On March 2, 1933 she married Alexander William (Sandy) Henry. Together they farmed in the Blackie area until 1935 when they rented and later purchased the Victor Betton farm in the Majorville area. They continued to farm there with their two sons until Sandy’s sudden death in May of 1970. Marion moved to her new home in Strathmore in 1972 where she lived until 1997. She moved into the Playfair Lodge in Bassano and later in July of 2003 she moved into the Bassano Health Centre where she resided until her passing.
Marion loved her family especially her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, a well kept yard, crocheting doilies, making quilts and traveling, taking many trips to Europe and other continents. Marion was a past member of the Women’s Institute and FWUA, Strathmore Drop-In where she had many good times with the “Happy Gang” there.
Marion is survived by a daughter Lois Kiemele of Rumsey, two sons Bruce (Carol) Henry and Gene (Marilyn) Henry all of Milo, nine grandchildren Rod (Marj), Ron (Leone), Lance (Kendra) Kiemele, Dianna (Phil) McBride all of Rumsey, Kody (Irene) Henry of Milo, Vicki (Mike) Whiteside of Vulcan, Sandy (Marlys) Henry of Milo, Tim (Tammy) Henry of Vulcan, Leah (Doug) Gillespie of Lomond, twenty-two great great grandchildren Wade, Jana, Logan, Mathew, Johnathan and Noel Kiemele; Heather, Holly and Amber McBride; Jessica, Nicole, Colin and Louisa Henry; Jodi and James Whiteside; Jordan, Darian, Korey, Kyle and Dana Henry; Garret and Tristan Gillespie; a sister Lela Avery of Bassano; two sisters-in-law Rose Northcott of Brooks and Ida Mae Burnett of Vulcan, numerous nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her husband Sandy in 1970, her parents George and Anna Greaves, a son-in-law Ted Kiemele, a great grand daughter Lindsay Michelle Henry, three brothers Samuel (Bea), Lewis and Leslie (Marion), three sisters Edith (Harvey) Fuller, Helma (Bill ) Sharp, Della (Albert) Whatmore and a brother-in-law Jim Avery.
Funeral Service will be held Friday April 2, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. at Mountain View Funeral Chapel (17Ave. at Garden Road NE) Calgary with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.
Casket Bearers Rod Kiemele, Ron Kiemele, Lance Kiemele, Kody Henry, Sandy Henry and Tim Henry.
Interment to follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens family plot.
