Ronald Stewart “Ron” Hayes of Calgary passed away July 24, 2006 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital at Calgary at the age of 70 years.
Ron was born on October 29, 1935 at Arrowwood, Alberta. He attended school at Arrowwood and took piano lessons for many years. Grade 12 was completed at Bow Valley Central in Cluny. Ron attended U of A in Edmonton, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He then joined the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Calgary where he received his Chartered Accountant Designation. Ron also was employed as a chartered accountant for Brinkerhoff Drilling and Baltic Drilling in Calgary.
Ron was an associate member of the Canadian Legion. He had an unique hobby of collecting beer cans and was a member of the Beer Can Collectors of America. Ron helped form the Alberta chapter and was editor of their newspaper for several years. He enjoyed traveling and one of his highlights was a seven month round the world trip to Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and Canada.
Ron is survived by three sisters Lois Leadbeater, Carolyn (Duane) Binning and Susan (Marven) Schalin, five nephews Brian Leadbeater, Roy (Lynn) Leadbeater, Glenn (Leah) Leadbeater, Kevin (Charlotte) Schalin, Grant (Kim) Schalin, five nieces Laurie (Sheldon) Watt, Norma (David) Deisman, Joan Binning, Debra (Warren) Kapaniuk, Roxane (Andy) Dixon, eighteen great nieces and nephews, an uncle, two aunts and several cousins.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Stewart and Ella Hayes, a nephew Dennis Binning and a brother-in-law Walter Leadbeater.
Graveside service was held Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Arrowwood Cemetery followed by refreshments at the Arrowwood Community Hall.
Casket bearers were his nieces and nephews.
