ALEXANDER HENRY “ALEX” HAGEN, OF VULCAN PASSED AWAY DECEMBER 14, 1998 AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE AT THE AGE OF 88 YEARS.
ALEX WAS BORN ONE OF FOURTEEN CHILDREN ON JANUARY 26, 1910 AT FOX LAKE, WISCONSIN TO FRANCIS AND THERESA HAGEN. HE ATTENDED SCHOOL AT WEYBURN, SASKATCHEWAN UNTIL THE AGE OF THIRTEEN. ALEX WORKED AS A FARM LABORER, LATER HE WORKED AS A CARPENTER, BUILDING AIRPLANE HANGERS FOR THE WAR. HE MARRIED VIOLET NORDELL FISHER IN 1941 AT ROSETOWN, SASKATCHEWAN. THE FOLLOWING YEAR THEY MOVED TO THE VULCAN AREA TO WORK ON THE ARCHIE McINTYRE FARM. HE ALSO WORKED AT MANY OTHER FARMS IN THE AREA. THEY PURCHASED THE McINTYRE PLACE IN 1965 AND CONTINUED TO FARM UNTIL RETIRING AND MOVING INTO VULCAN IN 1983. ALEX WORKED AS THE MAINTENANCE MAN FOR THE PETER DAWSON LODGE FOR A SHORT TIME IN THE MID 1970’s. IN 1998 HE MOVED INTO EXTENDICARE WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
ALEX ENJOYED VISITING AND PLAYING CARDS ESPECIALLY CRIBBAGE. HE ALSO ENJOYED GARDENING AND MAKING LAWN ORNAMENTS. HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND, A GREAT UNCLE AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP OUT.
ALEX WAS ACTIVE IN THE ENSIGN COMMUNITY AND WAS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 21, VULCAN, A LIFE MEMBER OF THE BENEVOLENT PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS LODGE # 121, VULCAN AND SUPPORTED THE NEW SENIORS DROP-IN CENTRE.
BELOVED FATHER OF GARRY (DAISY) HAGEN OF VULCAN, A BROTHER EMERY (MARJ) HAGEN OF BENOUGH , SASKATCHEWAN, A SISTER PAULINE MONTRAIL IN THE STATES, TWO BROTHERS-IN-LAW DOUG (MARY) FISHER AND ROBERT FISHER ALL OF ROSETOWN, SASKATCHEWAN, TWO SISTERS-IN-LAW EVELYN SMITH OF ROSETOWN AND ELEANOR “BUNNIE” THOMPSON OF CALGARY, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
ALEX WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS WIFE VIOLET IN 1994, NUMEROUS BROTHERS, SISTERS AND HIS PARENTS.
FUNERAL SERVICE FRIDAY DECEMBER 18, 1998 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. LORRAINE POWELL OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
