The family of Maury Maxwell Groves of Champion, are saddened to announce his sudden passing at home on August 17, 2019 at the age of 59 years.
Maury was born December 18, 1959 in Calgary, AB to Keith and Barbara (Poffenroth) Groves. He received his education in Champion and Vulcan Schools. Maury then attended Medicine Hat College for one year, playing football for the Rattlers. He attended SAIT for two years and was active in their curling program. Maury worked various jobs until starting in the pipe fitting trade, of which he continued working at until his passing.
Maury had a love for sports and curling, baseball and football were among his favorites. He enjoyed sharing this love with his son and watching his nieces and nephew participate in all activities. In addition, the farm and farm life were always a passion for Maury.
Maury is survived by his son Jordan Roth-Groves, his mother Barbara Groves, brothers David Groves and Corey (Melanie) Groves, nieces and nephew Samantha, Steven, Chloe, Alyssa, Arianna and Shayla, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Richard “Dick” Groves in 2008 and his father Keith in 2009.
Family Graveside Service and Inurnment at Champion Cemetery on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 10 am with Pastor David Sarsons officiating. A Celebration of Maury’s Life to follow from 1:30 pm to 4 pm at the Champion Community Hall.
