GARY JAMES “NICK” GIBBS, PASSED AWAY OCTOBER 8, 1997 AT VULCAN, ALBERTA AT THE AGE OF 61 YEARS.
NICK WAS BORN APRIL 22, 1936 AT SARNIA, ONTARIO, THE YOUNGEST OF NINE CHILDREN TO JOSEPH AND FRANCES GIBBS (nee:SPENCER). HE RECEIVED HIS EARLY EDUCATION AT MEADOWLEA PUBLIC SCHOOL IN SARNIA. LATER HE ATTENDED A TRADE SCHOOL WHERE HE BEGAN TRAINING FOR HIS CAREER AS A MOTOR MECHANIC. HE WORKED IN THE BEAUFORT SEA AS CHIEF MECHANIC ON THE DRILL SHIP EXPLORER II FOR DOME PETROLEUM FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. HE MOVED TO CALGARY AND NICK WORKED AT BERNIE SCOFIELD’S PETRO CANADA FOR A FEW YEARS. IN I988 NICK MOVED TO NAMAKA NEAR STRATHMORE WHERE HE WORKED FROM HIS HOUSE REPAIRING FRIENDS VEHICLES. HE MOVED TO VULCAN IN 1990 AND WORKED AS THE MECHANIC FOR TERRY LAYCRAFT AT VULCAN PETROCAN FOR TWO YEARS. THEN IN 1992 HE OPENED “NICK’S AUTO” WHICH HE HAS OWNED AND OPERATED UNTIL HIS PASSING.
NICK HAS ALWAYS ENJOYED TINKERING WITH OLD CARS BEGINNING IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS, HE EVENTUALLY MADE A CAREER OUT OF HIS HOBBY. HE ALSO ENJOYED CAMPING, DANCING, LEGION FUNCTIONS, SOCIALIZING WITH FRIENDS, MEETING NEW PEOPLE AND SPENDING TIME WITH HIS DOG SPARKY.
NICK WAS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION FOR EIGHTEEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS, TRANSFERRING TO THE VULCAN BRANCH #21 IN 1990.
NICK IS SURVIVED BY THREE SONS KEVIN GIBBS OF VERNON, B.C., GARY JR GIBBS OF VICTORIA, BRAD (CELENE) GIBBS OF CALGARY, A DAUGHTER SHARON(DAVID) GUTNICK OF HALIFAX, THEIR MOTHER BETTY LOWTHER OF LANGLEY,B.C. FOUR GRANDCHILDREN KATIE, SARAH, ISHA AND DYLAN, FIVE SISTERS IDA (PAUL) LAROCHE OF PEMBROOKE, ONTARIO, MELITA HARRISON, NELLIE (RAY) CLEMENTS, JUNE HARTLEY AND CATHERINE BROOKS, ALL OF SARNIA, ONTARIO, NUMEROUS
NIECES, NEPHEWS, A HOST OF FRIENDS AND LEGION MEMBERS.
NICK WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FIANCÉE MARLO DANN IN 1993, A SON TERRY, TWO BROTHERS HARVEY AND LLOYD GIBBS, AN INFANT SISTER MARY GIBBS AND HIS PARENTS.
FUNERAL SERVICE TUESDAY OCTOBER 14, 1997 AT 2:30 P.M AT VULCAN ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION HALL WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING.

CREMATION FOLLOWING THE SERVICE.
