Marmion “Marmie” Louise (Root) Geschwendt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, was ushered into heaven and into the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2018 at the age of 90.
Marmie was born in Vancouver B.C on January 9, 1928 to parents Edward & Molly Root of Lomond. Marmie was the middle child and only daughter, along with older brother Jerry and younger brother Aubrey. Marmie received all her schooling in Lomond before moving into Lomond to board with and work for Oscar Myers, who owned the General Store. Marmie met Fred Geschwendt at a local dance and within 2 years they were married on March 6 1948. They celebrated their 64 years together before Fred”s passing in 2012. Marmie truly enjoyed raising her family in the Champion area and being involved in the community. Annual trips to Fairmont hot springs in the fall and spring were an absolute favorite of Marmie’s.
Marmie was a very kind and gentle person who always opened her house to her many friends and neighbors. Over the years Marmie made many lifetime friendships and always enjoyed visiting with her friends, especially over the phone. Marmie loved sending cards and letters of encouragement to families in the community in their time of need. Marmie always was a gifted artist and created beautiful oil paintings throughout the years. She is remembered affectionately by her grandchildren for her pink lipstick, her constant words of love over them and the best roasted chicken.
Marmie was the loving wife of 64 years to late husband Fred, loving mother of daughter Sherry (Jeff) Copenhaver of Granbury, Texas and their daughter Shandy (Cody) Stromberg, of son Rick (Venita) Geschwendt of Champion and their children Meghan (Varun) Chhibbar, Brittany, Cole (Becca) and Jarred Geschwendt, 3 great-grandchildren Chloe and Heidi Stromberg and Ava Geschwendt, numerous nieces and nephews.
Marmie was predeceased by her parents Ed and Molly Root, brothers Jerry (Emma) and Aubrey (Marion) Root and a sister-in-law Betty (John ) Roebuck.
Marmie battled Alzheimer’s disease for the last 10 years of her life. She was well cared for at the Vulcan Extendicare in the later stages of the disease. It was with great sadness that her family watched her struggle until her passing. She remained the sweet and kind woman even until the end, which was a blessing.
