RUSSELL LAMONT FINDLAY, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE APRIL 5, 2000 AT THE AGE OF 74 YEARS.
RUSSELL WAS BORN AT SAND POINT, IDAHO MAY 4, 1925 TO LAMONT (MONT) AND VERA FINDLAY. THEY MOVED TO MOUNTAIN VIEW, LOMOND, THEN TO BLACKIE, WHERE HE BEGAN SCHOOL AND CAME TO VULCAN IN 1939 WHERE HE COMPLETED HIS HIGH SCHOOL. IN 1945 HE BEGAN WORKING AT BILL BROWN’S GARAGE, WHERE HE BEGAN LEARNING AUTO BODY WORK. RUSSELL APPRENTICED AT RAE’S AUTO BODY SHOP UNTIL 1952. THEN HE WORKED FOR STAN SCALE’S MOTORS ON MAIN STREET. HE JOINED WITH ROY McLENNAN TO FORM VULCAN BODY SHOP IN 1958 WHERE HE WORKED ON VEHICLES UNTIL RETIRING IN 1985. RUSSELL LIVED AND CARED FOR HIS MOTHER UNTIL HER PASSING IN 1990, WHEN HE MOVED IN THE PETER DAWSON LODGE. HE MOVED TO EXTENDICARE IN 1997 WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
RUSSELL WAS A SOFT SPOKEN MAN WHO WAS VERY METICULOUS IN EVERYTHING HE DID. HE WAS INVOLVED IN HIS CHURCH AND SERVED IN THE SUNDAY SCHOOL ORGANIZATION.
RUSSELL WAS A MEMBER OF THE LETHBRIDGE CAR CLUB AND VULCAN FISH AND GAME ASSOCIATION. HE ALSO ENJOYED FISHING, HUNTING, CAMPING, GARDENING, ANTIQUE CARS, WOOD WORKING AND RUG HOOKING.
RUSSELL IS SURVIVED BY A BROTHER-IN-LAW KAY L. (GAIL) JENSEN OF COALDALE, NUMEROUS AUNTS, UNCLES, NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS SISTER GLORIA JENSEN AND HIS PARENTS.
FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO MEET WITH THE FAMILY AT THE CHURCH FROM 1:00 TO 1:20 P.M.
FUNERAL SERVICE MONDAY APRIL 10, 2000 AT 1:30 P.M. AT THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, CHAMPION WITH BISHOP BRUCE SMITH OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
CASKET BEARERS WERE HOWARD HARTLEY, RICHARD SMITH, CHUCK ANDERSON, GRANT HOPP, DICK BROWN AND RICHARD LAMBERT.
