FATH, Robert Edward 1917 – 2013

Robert Edward Fath, 95, of Champion, Alberta, passed away in the presence of his family June 14, 2013.

He was born to the late Stephen and Anna Fath, October 28, 1917, in Champion, AB.  Robert attended public school in Champion and Calgary, where he lived with his parents for a short time before returning to the family farm, where he farmed for the remaining years of his life.

Bitten by the farming lifestyle, Robert continued the farm tradition. With all the hours needed to raise crops, livestock and his family, Robert still found time to pursue his many sporting interests and going for drives after mass on Sundays. He worked hard, passing on his good work habits and remained on the farm until his 92nd year, before moving briefly into Champion, and finally to Vulcan.

Robert was an active member of the sport community in Champion.  From baseball to curling, and the occasional Grey Cup party, Robert participated in it all.  He spent numerous hours shooting pool and cardsharking over a game of cribbage.

Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce (Taylor) and his four children: Mark Fath of Vulcan, AB; Tim and Susan Fath of Airdrie, AB; Christine (Fath) and David Sealock of Airdrie, AB; and Garth Fath of Calgary, AB.  He also is survived by his grandchildren Ashlee and Tyler Fath, Jordon (Kady) Sealock and Justine Sealock and by his brothers Philip, Harvey and Allan (Pat).  He is predeceased by his brother Jerry and sister Helen.

Funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champion, AB, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013.  Internment Champion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, 10531 Kingsway Ave. Edmonton, T5H 4K1 or the Vulcan Extendicare, Box 810, Vulcan, T0L 2B0.

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home.  Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.
