FATH, Mark Robert 1956 – 2025

The family of Mark Fath of Vulcan are extremely saddened to announce that Mark passed away suddenly at home on January 3, 2025, at the age of 68 years.

Mark was born in Vulcan, AB on January 24, 1956, eldest son of Robert and Joyce Fath. He received his schooling in Champion and Vulcan before attending Lethbridge Community College for a short period of time before returning to the family farm.

Mark married Barb James in October 1983 and together they raised two children – Ashlee and Tyler. They lived west of Champion on the Fireguard Road where they farmed and resided until 2006 when Mark moved into Vulcan. He met Patty, his beloved partner, in 2013, and they lived together until Mark’s passing.

Mark was a farmer through and through and farmed at the family’s home west of Champion, though he also worked at the Vulcan UFA and Wolfe’s Home Hardware before retiring in 2015. In his earlier years, Mark enjoyed curling, baseball, hockey, snowmobiling, and a little bit of hunting. And oh, did he love to hop on his motorcycle and go for a drive, anywhere and everywhere. In his later years, these interests became spending time with his children, especially his granddaughter Tessa, gardening, bird and weather watching, crossword puzzles, and puttering around in his yard.

Mark was an avid reader, the Proudest of Papas, lover of all things nature, and an incredible fount of knowledge. He will be deeply and dearly missed.

Mark is survived by his daughter Ashlee (Marcel) Fath of Lethbridge, son Tyler Fath of Vulcan, granddaughter Tessa of Lethbridge, partner Patty Testa of Vulcan/Airdrie, brothers Tim (Sue) Fath of Sundre, Garth Fath of Calgary, sister Christine Sealock of Airdrie, niece Justine, and a nephew Jordan. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Joyce Fath.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1 pm at the Champion Community Hall. Please come as you are; Mark did not stand on ceremony in life and would not want to start now. Family Inurnment will take place in the Champion Cemetery in the Spring of 2025.

The family asks that any tributes in Mark’s memory be made to either the Champion Cemetery Maintenance Society (Box 99, Champion, AB T0L 0R0) or via E-Transfer to: vaage.beverly57@outlook.com OR Vulcan County Protective Services (Box 180, Vulcan, AB, T0L 2B0).

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home. Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.

I was luckily “adopted. “into Marks family after I married their nephew Ward Knight.(Marks mom Joyce & Wards mom Alice were sisters). Mark became a great friend & we had a great time whenever we ran into each other. Mark’s kids are very close to my heart & love they call me Auntie.. I still have trouble believing he ‘s gone. His love of life, his family,& friends are going to miss his great sense of humor, his laugh ,& his love of teasing. Rest in Peace Mark..you are missed so much. Loveyou. Cus (as he called me)

Our heart felt condolences to the Fath family. We are saddened by the loss of your father.
Ashlee and Tyler, your dad was a wealth of information and we valued his help as an employee at the UFA.
Little did I know I would again have his knowledge walk me through the ins and outs at Wolfe’s Home Hardware for a few years before his retirement.
I enjoyed his humour , it was one of a kind.
He loved talking about Tessa and never missed an opportunity to show her off in the hardware store.
    Mark, you will be missed

Ashlee and Tyler … our condolences on the passing of your father. We welcomed the opportunity to turn your dad, a long time UFA employee, into a ‘red-shirted’ Home Hardware guy. Our thoughts are with you and the family.

My sincere condolences to the family.
At a time of sadness like this, thoughts of Mark’s early years arise for me with memories of Auntie Joyce and Uncle Bob and the 4 little ones at the farm.
And yes that candy cupboard to echo my sister’s (Penny’s) memories. My heart goes out to Tim, Christine and Garth on the loss of their brother. Sandra Bloxham (daughter of Elsie and Ken)
