Opal Louise Ensign, formerly of Carmangay, passed away Monday, April 19, 2004 in Calgary at the age of 78 years.
Opal was born on January 18, 1926 at Barons, Alberta to Frank and Eva Cutforth She was raised on the family farm with three sisters and six brothers. Opal received her education at Barons and Victoria, B.C. where the family spent the winter months. After high school, Opal went to Normal School in Edmonton where she received a teaching certificate. She taught school at Barhill and Barons.
Opal married Ralph Ensign on October 8, 1949. They enjoyed many years together farming and raising cattle. Opal and Ralph had two daughters, Beverley and Barbara. She was a wonderful cook, especially her fried chicken and apple pies.
In 1995 Opal and Ralph moved into the Peter Dawson Lodge where she resided until her passing. Opal enjoyed doing the weekly puzzles and spent many hours working on them. She also enjoyed card bingo. As Opal’s mobility became limited, she enjoyed long phone conversations with family and friends.
Opal was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed.
Loving mother of two daughters Beverley (Duane) Talbot of Calgary, Barbara (Hayward) Noel of Cardston, four grandchildren, Craig (Doreen) Talbot of Calgary, Angela (Jarrod) Shiflett of Beaumont, Texas, Brad Noel of Swift Current, Sask., Ryan (fiancé Shayla Babott) Noel of Calgary, two great grandchilden Emily Talbot and Erik Noel both of Calgary, three sisters Grace (Bill) Thompson of Calgary, Muriel Cutler of Kirkaldy and Doris (Bob) Shearer of Lethbridge, three brothers George (Mildred) Cutforth and Harold (Joanne) Cutforth all of Lethbridge and Wes (Beth) Cutforth of Olds, numerous nieces and nephews.
Opal was predeceased by her husband Ralph, three brothers Roy, Art and Charlie and her parents.
Funeral service Friday, April 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Peter Dawson Lodge, Vulcan with Lee Spice officiating.
Casket Bearers Bob Shearer, Duane Talbot, Craig Talbot, Hayward Noel, Brad Noel and Ryan Noel.
Interment Carmangay Cemetery.
