The family of Henry Arthur (Art) Dyck are saddened to announce his passing on January 17, 2023 in Champion, Alta.
Art is survived by his four sons – Gerry (Deb), Rod (Arlis), Reg (Kim) and Calvin Dyck; two granddaughters, Carly (Josh), Ana (Will); two grandsons, Dusty, and Shawn; four great granddaughters, Alexa, Remi, Isla and Sophia; three sisters, Marilyn, Ivy, and Viola, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mary Dyck and older brother John.
Art was born June 12, 1936 in Vernon B.C. and shortly after the family moved back to the Swift Current area. Art quit school in Grade 8 and went to B.C. to work for CP Rail with his older brother John. The boys worked that job for awhile and then their father asked them to come home to help run his trucking company doing deliveries. That was the start of Art’s trucking career. At 16, while his Dad was on holidays Art was doing deliveries of liquor to the hotels in and around Swift Current. At one point during his fathers’ holiday Dad got caught by the local RCMP and was asked to show his ID. Art got off with a warning and was able to finish his deliveries.
Art spent the next 49 years driving trucks, working for various companies. While living in Moose Jaw Art worked for Tiger Transfer out of Calgary. In 1967, Art and family relocated to Calgary to work for the same company. A couple years later Art bought a cabover Freightliner and put that truck on at Cheyanne Road Transport. When Tiger Transfer went under Art bought their old B-61 Macks and brought his Freightliner over and started Tiger Transfer 1974 Limited. He operated it for a few years before selling it. He then went back and worked for Buddy Boyce and his companies, Tioga Transport, Cheyanne Transport, and finally Camanche Transport. Art then spent the last 20 years working for Caron Transport retiring at 65 in 2002. At the end of his trucking career Art managed to log in almost 5 million safe miles!
Art then retired to Champion, AB. He loved the small town life and spent a few years on the Town Council. He took great pride in the community and was very pleased when they were able to upgrade the fire hall and the town pool. Art always enjoyed spending time with his boys and their families, and their friends. Many, many good times were had at various family gatherings and parties.
Art liked to help the boys with their cars doing repairs and upgrades. He didn’t have a lot of hobbies but if the boys were on dirt bikes, street bikes, and quads he was always willing to go for a rip! On one trip, taking the twins dirt biking he was told by his wife to stay off the kids’ bikes. Well he didn’t listen and had a wipe out. When he was brought home on crutches he was in big trouble but quietly told the boys it was worth it! One of his highlights was when we threw a retirement party in Carseland and lots of family and friends were able to attend.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at both The Peter Dawson Lodge and the Vulcan Hospital LTC Facility. You people do amazing work and we appreciate all your help.
It was Art’s wish to not have a formal service but his family will gather together at a later date to celebrate his life.
Tributes in Art’s memory can be made to the Vulcan County Health & Wellness Foundation, Box 28, Vulcan, AB, T0L 2B0.

Art you were a good man and a great neighbour. I loved our chats and visits. You had faith in me when I was “ upside down.” I’m sure you are still laughing at/with me. Miss you, my old friend. Rest easy. My condolences to the family. ❤️
Thank you both for your kind thoughts!
Rest In Peace my humble friend On behalf of the residents and ratepayers of the Village of Champion, we offer our prayers and condolences to Arts family during this time but also say Many Thanks for your dedication to service for being on council and being the peoples voice during those years
I really appreciated our talks and his presence in and around Champion. We always caught up on the way of the fire department world. I can compliment the statement in his story above that he was proud of his involvement in the community. He will be missed.
Condolences to the family.
