DYCK, Henry  1941 – 2004

Henry Dyck of Vulcan passed away Monday, June 14. 2004 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 63 years.

Henry was born January 23, 1941 at Winkler, Manitoba to Peter and Anna Dyck. He lost his mother at an early age and went to work to help support his family. Henry worked at many different jobs, including farming and heavy equipment operator. In 1966 Henry moved to Calgary and worked on a farm southwest of Calgary then at Silverwood Dairy. It was there that he met Beatrice (Bea) Kennedy and they were married in 1967. In 1974 they moved to Delia where he worked for the M.D. of Starland in Morrin. In 1976 they moved to Vulcan and Henry began working for the Town of Vulcan. While working with the Town of Vulcan he served as Union Steward. In 1996 Henry took early retirement from the Town because of ill health. For the past five years Henry has resided in Long Term Care at the Vulcan Hospital where he received excellent care.

Henry was a very quiet man but if he could pull off a prank, his day was worthwhile. He loved his family and would stop what he was doing to fix a bike chain, build a ramp or help them if they asked. Henry enjoyed carpentry, remodeling houses and could build anything including a go-cart. He loved making puzzles and solving them, camping, fishing, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Big Mac’s. For a short time Henry was a steward at the Vulcan United Church.

Beloved husband of wife Bea of Vulcan, loving father of two daughters Echo ( Dale ) Kaczmar of Calgary, Anita (Adam) Miller of Vulcan, a son Gorden (Selena Dickman) Dyck of Champion, three grandchildren Veda, Halay Kaczmar and Adrienne Miller, five sisters Mary (Jake) Elias of Vulcan, Anne (Garry Haunstein) Rowe of Calgary, Helen (Ben) Funk of Hanna, Betty (Gerald) Maczuga of Gunthal, Manitoba and Marg (Bill) Goertzen of Windsor, Ontario, a mother-in-law Janie Kennedy of Nanton, a brother-in-law Dwight (Debbie) Kennedy of Brooks and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, a sister Sara Ginter and a father-in-law John Kennedy.

Funeral service Friday, June 18, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Vulcan with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.

Casket bearers Garry Hamilton, David Reimar, Floyd Scott, Mark Rose, Arnie Anderson and Dave McVittie.

Internment Vulcan Cemetery.
