Georgina Mae “Gene” Dueck passed away January 9, 2006 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 69 years.
Gene was born on May 22, 1936 at Hamilton, Ontario to George and Lillian Jones. She was one of four children. Her parents separated when she was eight and Gene moved with her father to Manitoba to live with an uncle. Gene attended a Catholic Convent school in Manitoba. Her father passed away when Gene was 16 years old. She worked at several jobs in Winnipeg until 1962 when Gene met Frank. She moved to Calgary in 1966 and worked as a janitor in Calgary schools and in some restaurants.. Frank and Gene married in 1973 in Calgary. They moved to Vulcan in 1991 and she started working as a cook in the Vulcan Legion kitchen in 1993.
Gene really enjoyed putting on the Legion Christmas dinners which she did for five years. She enjoyed going to the Legion, reading, knitting and watching television. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 29 years.
Beloved wife of Frank of Champion, loving mother of two sons Dale (Susan) and Perry (Lauralee) both of Calgary, three grandchildren Crystal (James) Bell, Travis and Miranda; two great grandchildren Frankie and Johnnie, a brother, two sisters, three step brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, two step sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was predeceased by a daughter Marla Dueck in 1973, a son Irwin Jensen-Dueck and her parents.
Memorial service Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vulcan Royal Canadian Legion Hall with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.
