DOW, Kevin Robert 1955 – 2021

Kevin Robert Dow
September 18, 1955 – December 1, 2021

On December 1, 2021, after a long battle with liver disease, Kevin climbed into his truck for his final road trip to the “shop” to be greeted by his buddies, who have long since passed before him, to have some drinks, reminisce, and tell their trucking tales of years gone by as well as a few good jokes for measure.

Kevin was born in Yarmouth, NS on September 18, 1955 to Peter “Ginger” and Marie Dow of Yarmouth, NS. He was the youngest of three sons and he was the mischief maker in the family. He caused no end of grief for his mom and dad while growing up. Kevin worked at the family-owned meat market in Hebron, NS, taking product to various towns in southern NS and also worked at the cotton mill in Yarmouth.

Then in 1974, he hopped into his van with a bunch of his buddies from Yarmouth and travelled across Canada until they ended up running out of gas in Calgary. This is where Kevin decided to stay. He worked for the City of Calgary for a number of years and then had jobs with various long haul trucking companies taking loads to BC, California, Alaska and various other places. In 1985, he took a job at Rolling Mix Concrete driving a mixer truck and retired in September 2020. Kevin was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 28 years.

Kevin was diagnosed with liver disease in 2011. He always kept a good attitude during his struggle and treatment.

When the work was done, Kevin loved to have a good time with family and friends, and was always ready with a story or a joke. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone who needed a hand or was in trouble. He loved to hunt, go fishing, and went camping as often as he could around Alberta and BC with the occasional mishap that made us all laugh. His friends thought the world of him and always looked forward to hearing from him when he called or went to see them.

He leaves behind his love of 29 years Dorothy Kevol of Vulcan AB, his son, Ryan Garron (Kristen) of Langdon, AB, his brother, Peter Dow of Arcadia NS, his nephews, Derek Dow of Calgary AB, and Christopher (Lindsay) Dow, great nieces, Ainsley and Isla Dow, and great nephew, Liam Dow all of Red Deer, great nephew, Steven Dow-Johnson of Toronto ON, as well as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Harvey Linville of Rockyford AB. Kevin was predeceased by his parents of Yarmouth, older brother, Raymond Dow, of Halifax NS, and his sister-in-law, Nancy Dow of Arcadia, NS.

Kevin will be cremated and a private family service will be held at the Vulcan Funeral Home. His ashes will be taken to Yarmouth, NS at a later date to be buried with his parents with a keepsake remaining with Dorothy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alex Aspinall and his staff as the South Health Campus, Hepatology Clinic, in Calgary, and Dr. Charles Duvenage and the staff at Vulcan Regional Hospital for their care of Kevin in his final days.

Please raise a toast in his honour and remember a special moment (or moments) that you shared with him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, Suite 309, 1010-1 Avenue N. E., Calgary, AB T2E 7W7.

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home. Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.
