Ruth Lorraine (nee: Clark) Dann passed away in Vulcan on June 7, 2022 at the age of 97 years.
Ruth was born July 14, 1924 on a farm near Vulcan, AB, the second daughter of Percy and Etta Clark. She attended school with her older sister Eileen and two younger brothers Lloyd and Myrel at Boyne School, just two miles west of the farm. Both girls attended grades eight through twelve in Vulcan. Following school, Ruth trained to become a telephone operator at the AGT exchange in Vulcan, working there from 1942 to until around 1947. During the early war years, she enjoyed going to dances, sometimes three times a week.
Ruth married Ben Dann Jr. on Nov.16, 1947. They began farming in 1952, 1 mile east of Kirkaldy and took over the Clark farm in 1961, a mixed operation of grain and cattle until retiring and selling the farm to their son Alan. Ben and Ruth purchased a home in Vulcan in 1980 and enjoyed many good times, including Lions and Lionette Club functions, camping with friends and relatives and being a part of the community.
Ruth worked regular part time for many years at the Vulcan Public Library. She also loved the Vulcan Museum as she was the family historian and collected most of the family history. Ruth was a wonderful gardener, winning awards for her roses. She also kept very busy with knitting, crocheting and other types of handwork, but she especially loved being with her family.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Lynda (Keith Carlin) Fewings, son Norman and daughter-in-law Susan Lougheed, numerous grand and great-grandchildren, brother Myrel Clark and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Ben in 2013, son Allan, sister Eileen (Ivan) Haga and brother Lloyd Clark.
A Celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Vulcan Legion Hall (240 Sinclair Rd).

Ruth befriended us when she discovered we were her distant relatives. She sent a friendly note wondering if we could fill in some ancestry info. She was so kind and delightful that we wound up having a correspondence back and forth for several years. I woke up thinking of her today and was so sad to discover she had passed. May she rest in peace and may her family be comforted in this time of loss.
So sorry to hear of your mothers passing’. I had another commitment and could not be there for the service. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. The Danns were special neighbours and great friends, Always oh our minds Ron & Virginia Barnes
So very sorry to hear of Ruth’s passing. She was such a kind lady and we know the family will miss her dearly.
Hugs from Ross and Shirley Zuehlke
My mother, Lola Findlay, always spoke highly of Ruth. These two farm girls shared many experiences (high school in town, war time dances, early Vulcan years). Then later as town ladies they had fun Lionettes experiences together (selling baseball cards, Senior Citizen’s night skits, parades). Ruth was a talented, fun, community-minded person who loved her family and generously served others. She will be missed. Condolences to her family.
My sincere condolences to Norman and the rest of Ruth’s family. We will so miss her in LTC. She was always so sweet and up for any kind of fun. Ruth was so good at any trivia or brain games and loved the garden. We’ll miss you Ruth❤️
