Albert John “Bert” Daniels passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on December 15, 2005 at the age of 84 years.
Bert was born July 17, 1921 near Ceylon, Saskatchewan to Alfred and Annie Daniels. He attended school in the farming community and moved to Calgary, Alberta where he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in May 1939. After completing boot camp Bert was sent to Europe and served in Italy and England until returning to Calgary in 1945. Later the same year he married Alice May Thompson and Bert began his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. He worked in the furnace and heating industry in Calgary. Bert opened his own shop in Vulcan where he continued to work until 1975 when he teamed up with Merv Smith a plumber. Together they operated a plumbing and heating business in Vulcan until 1987.
Bert began working with his son Harvey building homes. He would continue with the heating part of construction then they would complete the project. Bert semi retired in 1992 but kept busy doing smaller projects. Alice passed away in 1993 and Bert continued to reside in his home until his health gave way to a stroke in 1995. He went to live with his son Harvey, then to the Peter Dawson Lodge, then was able to live with a companion in a trailer in 1996 until moving into Vulcan Extendicare in 2003 where he has resided since.
Beloved father of a daughter Lorraine McDonagh of Terrace, B.C. and a son Harvey (Jo-Anne Chase) of Champion, a niece Shirley (Geoff) Dawson of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and his companion Gertie Standish now living in Brooks.
Bert was predeceased by his wife Alice in 1993, son-in-law Daryl McDonagh, a sister Grace Temsled, a nephew Edwin Temsled and his parents Alfred and Annie Daniels.
A Service of Remembrance was held at the Chapel of Vulcan Funeral Home Wednesday December 21, 2005 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.
Inurnment followed at Stavely I.O.O.F Cemetery, Stavely, Alberta.
