William Freeman”Bill” Crossfield of Nanton, Alberta passed away October 20, 2005 at Calgary, Alberta at the age of 80 years.

Bill was born May 7, 1925 at Hanna, Alberta the only child of George and Effie Crossfield (formerly of St.Paul D’Abbostford, QC.). Bill’s parents homesteaded on ranch land about five miles outside of Hanna and was raised on the Marion Wright farm also in the Hanna area where he attended Solon and Alps schools. Bill came to Vulcan County following the passing of his father to work on farms including Howard Tharle, Walter Steiner, R.N. Hill, Ivo Love and Archie Oldfield. He also worked at the Corner Store and Garage for Ray and Lillian Onstad for five years. He moved to Vulcan and worked for Texaco Bulk Fuel delivering fuel products to local farms for about twenty-two years. While in Vulcan he made his home with Cliff and Ruth Fath from 1965 till 1986. Bill moved to Calgary for a few years then to High River and most recently to Nanton where he has resided for the past four years.

Bill was a very good listener and was always willing to help out where he could. He enjoyed traveling one of his latest trips was to Mexico with his cousin Eileen.

Bill was active in the communities in which he resided as a Life member of the B.P.O.Elks Lodge 121 Vulcan and the Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge in Vulcan, Blackie and High River. He also volunteered to help put children’s activity packages together for Alberta’s hospitals.

Bill is fondly remembered by Eileen Slack, Tina Crossfield, Harald Kunze, numerous cousins from Alberta, Quebec, Ontario and B.C and many close friends.

Bill was predeceased by his parents.

Memorial service Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at the Vulcan United Church 201-2 Ave. S with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.

Fraternal services by Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and Independent Order of Oddfellows.

Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery Columbarium.
