We Remember

Schumacher, Annetta Marie, formerly of Vulcan, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge on November 19, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Annetta is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Annetta was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and a friend to many throughout her life.
Annetta was born at Vulcan Hospital on February 21, 1924 but lived in the Champion district. She attended Champion School in grade one, grades 2 to 8 at Hiawatha Country School and completed her education at Champion High School.
Annetta married Lloyd Gilbert Schumacher. They lived at Turner Valley

Marshall, Melbourne “Mel” Newton, of Lethbridge (formerly of Vulcan), beloved husband of Charlotte for 61 years, passed away at the Fairmont Park Extendicare in Lethbridge with his family at his side, on November 11, 2014 at the age of 88 years.
Mel was born and raised in Vulcan on February 2, 1926 to Bill and Chloe Marshall, along with siblings Norman and Ruth. Mel attended school at Union Jack, Lomond and Mossleigh Schools. He joined the Army when he was 18 and was ranked as a Royal Canadian Engineer. He was discharged at the age of 19.

With heavy hearts, the family of Mel Froom announce his passing on November 9, 2014 at the age of 70 years.
Mel was in the agriculture business for over 30 years, as a parts person in Saskatchewan and Alberta with both Case , Case IH and Deer-Country. He enjoyed volunteering for the elderly, especially driving them to their appointments. Mel had many hobbies but the one he enjoyed the most was his wood working.

Tallent, Barbara Wilhelmina, of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre, surrounded by her family on November 9, 2014 at the age of 71 years.
Barb, as she was known to her friends, was born February 14, 1943 and raised in Coldstream, Middlesex County, Ontario with her four siblings.
Barb first came west in 1980. After several moves to various places, both east and west, Barb returned to Vulcan in 2006 and often said, “I love it here and this is where I am staying.” She had many very good friends here and enjoyed shopping and lunch days at least

Fath,  Philip Stephen, formerly of Champion, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 25, 2014 surrounded by his family, at the age of 98 years.
Dad was born on the farm West of Champion on May 26, 1916 to Stephen & Anna. Dad had one sister Helen and four brothers, Robert, Jerry, Harvey and Allan.
Growing up dad went to school by horse and wagon to Champion. In grade six the family moved to Calgary and dad attended St Mary’s Boys School. He enjoyed school and would often talk about summers playing ball against other Catholic schools. They also played

Ingraham, Alan Hale, of Okotoks (formerly of Arrowwood), peacefully passed away surrounded by family, at the Agape Hospice in Calgary on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the age of 84 years.
Alan was born on October 6th, 1930 in Arrowwood, Alberta. Raised near the Arrowwood Creek in the dirty thirties, he enjoyed an honest, wholesome upbringing with his brother Gordon and sister Margaret. He graduated Olds Agricultural College in 1951, and after completing his studies returned to work on the family farm with his brother. Sanderson, Helen Eugenia of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 20, 2014 at the age of 100 years, with her family at her side.

Helen Eugenia Sanderson (nee Holm) was born on February 10th, 1914, in their pioneer shack 3 ½ miles southwest of Champion, Alberta. Helen attended school in Champion from grade 1 to 11, grade 12 in Calgary, and then attended Normal School to become a teacher. She taught school for 27 years, starting in the one room Sanderson School, and ending her career reading to children at the Champion School and Vulcan Prairieview

Gorzitza, Ronald “Ron” John, of Vulcan, passed away surrounded by his family, at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 17, 2014 at the age of 84 years.
Ron was born August 21, 1930 in Coalhurst, Alberta. Ron is the second youngest child of 10 siblings. He was born to Emil and Elise Gorzitza on a farm in the Kipp, AB area. Ron’s siblings were/are: Honey (Hans) Schawalder, Lily Dobrazanski, Adolf (Lily) Gorzitza, William (Vera) Gorzitza, Walter (Laura) Gorzitza, George (Ann) Gorzitza, Alfred Gorzitza (deceased during World War II), infant siblings, Wilfred Henry and Minnie Elizabeth Gorzitza.

Our family wishes to announce the loss of our beloved wonderful Mum, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Helen Elizabeth Giles. Helen passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 9, 2014 at the age of 96 years.
Helen was the only daughter in a family of four children, born to Robert and Sara Jamison of Vulcan, AB. The Jamisons moved from the State of Washington to farm west of Vulcan in 1917. Draft horses powered farming in that era and Helen developed a strong and lasting interest in these gentle giants and subsequent riding horses. Helen was an adventurous
