MacIndoe, George, of Edmonton, formerly of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton on July 16, 2018 at the age of 98 years.
George, sometimes called Scotty, was born in the village of Lomond, Alberta. He was the only son of William and Elizabeth MacIndoe and spent his early childhood on their homestead at Wheat Centre (located north of Enchant, Alberta). In 1923 they moved to a farm in the Vauxhall, Alberta district. He received his schooling at New West, the nearby rural one-room school, and also in Vauxhall. George helped his father on the farm before

Norman, “Betty” Elizabeth passed away suddenly in Lomond, Alberta on July 11, 2018 at the age of 75 years.
Betty was born on August 27, 1942 to Rueben and Sarah Striemer in Carrot River, SK.
In 1982, Betty met Frank Tolsdorf from Travers and together they farmed for ten years. They retired in 1992 and moved into Lomond.
Betty enjoyed flower gardening, knitting and crocheting, creating many beautiful blankets, toques and scarves over the years. She also loved a good game of Crazy Eights!

Petronech, Lesley Ruth, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Vulcan Community Health Center on July 7, 2018 at the age of 71 years.

Lesley was born in Lethbridge, AB on March 10th,1947. Until the age of 6, she and her parents Gordon and Betty Petronech, along with two older brothers Gordon and John, lived in Coaldale. In 1953, a farm was purchased just on the border of Champion where she grew up and went to school. County Central High school completed her formal education from 1963 to 1965. Massie, Eugene, formerly of Carmangay, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 27, 2018 at the age of 65 years.
Gene was born in Calgary to Phyllis and Gordon Massie on July 29, 1952. He was raised in Calgary before moving to Carmangay. He was the caretaker for the Carman Manor for many years. As well, he worked many other jobs, helping Volk’s building movers, painting, and ice rink caretaker, amongst others. One of the most memorable jobs was when he wrote the Carmangay News column for the Vulcan Advocate as Geno Mass.

Hamilton, Garry Wayne, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 6, 2018 at the age of 73 years.
Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 2:30 pm at the Vulcan United Church, Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating. Luncheon to follow at the Vulcan Legion Hall. Inurnment in Alix Cemetery at a later date.

Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Matlock (nee Christman) formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away June 5, 2018 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 99 years.
Betty was born July 13, 1918 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Harry and Eva Christman and was raised near Monarch on the family farm. She went to school in Monarch and later in Fort Macleod where she completed high school. She and her younger sister Flora attended Normal School in Calgary, and Betty began teaching in 1939 at Blusson School northeast of Champion. Burgess, Melvin Ralph, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 1, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
Mel was born January 24, 1931 in Vulcan to Bill and Alberta Burgess. Mel and Lena (Scott) were married on June 27, 1952 in High River. They moved into the house that was built by Mel’s Great Grandfather James Ward and resided there until 1962 when a new house was moved in. Together they raised five children. Mel started farming with his father in 1948 and continued farming with his son Terry and Grandson Corey and living

Bach, Margaret Agnes “Peggy”, of Champion, passed away surrounded by family at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on May 28, 2018 at the age of 93 years.
Margaret “Peggy” Bach was born in Fuerty, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, February 8th, 1925, to James and Katy Murray. She grew up on the family farm and lived there until she went to London during the war as a nurse. She experienced the hardships of war, including a bomb landing in the building across the street.

It is with sadness that Florence’s family announce her peaceful passing at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on May 25, 2018 at the age of 91 ½ years.
Florence, the youngest daughter was born at Lomond on August 14, 1926. She taught at Circle Hill, near Enchant, AB. In 1947, she married Kenneth and while living on the farm they had two children, Dwain and Carol.
