Massie, Eugene, formerly of Carmangay, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 27, 2018 at the age of 65 years.
Gene was born in Calgary to Phyllis and Gordon Massie on July 29, 1952. He was raised in Calgary before moving to Carmangay. He was the caretaker for the Carman Manor for many years. As well, he worked many other jobs, helping Volk’s building movers, painting, and ice rink caretaker, amongst others. One of the most memorable jobs was when he wrote the Carmangay News column for the Vulcan Advocate as Geno Mass.
Gene was an immensely talented artist

Hamilton, Garry Wayne, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 6, 2018 at the age of 73 years.

Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Matlock (nee Christman) formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away June 5, 2018 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 99 years.
Betty was born July 13, 1918 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Harry and Eva Christman and was raised near Monarch on the family farm. She went to school in Monarch and later in Fort Macleod where she completed high school. She and her younger sister Flora attended Normal School in Calgary, and Betty began teaching in 1939 at Blusson School northeast of Champion. Burgess, Melvin Ralph, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 1, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
Mel was born January 24, 1931 in Vulcan to Bill and Alberta Burgess. Mel and Lena (Scott) were married on June 27, 1952 in High River. They moved into the house that was built by Mel’s Great Grandfather James Ward and resided there until 1962 when a new house was moved in. Together they raised five children. Bach, Margaret Agnes “Peggy”, of Champion, passed away surrounded by family at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on May 28, 2018 at the age of 93 years.
Margaret “Peggy” Bach was born in Fuerty, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, February 8th, 1925, to James and Katy Murray. She grew up on the family farm and lived there until she went to London during the war as a nurse. She experienced the hardships of war, including a bomb landing in the building across the street.

Florence, the youngest daughter was born at Lomond on August 14, 1926. She taught at Circle Hill, near Enchant, AB. In 1947, she married Kenneth and while living on the farm they had two children, Dwain and Carol. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Donna of over 53 years; his two daughters Deanna (Rolf) and Marlyn (Gord); his four grandsons Ethan, Kyle, Jake and Sam; and his sister Annette (Norm) and family.

Willems, Eugene Edward, of Champion, beloved husband of Patricia, passed away at the Claresholm Hospital on May 16, 2018 at the age of 76 years.
Besides his loving wife Pat, Gene is survived by his children: Dawn (Peter) Kuczaj of Calgary, Adam (Melodie) Willems of Champion and Christopher Willems, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers Barry (Cindy) Willems, Rick Willems, two sisters Rose (Gordon) Hart and Denise (Hubert) Bru, numerous nieces and nephews.
