John Malcolm Campbell of Vulcan, formerly of Mossleigh, passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on November 21, 2024 at the age of 82 years.
John was born August 13, 1942 in Vulcan, AB, second son of Bill and Carrie Campbell. He received his education mostly in Mossleigh, and attended Grade 12 in Vulcan. Upon completing high school, he attended Olds School of Agriculture. After he received his diploma, he returned home to farm.
In 1966, John married Norien Nelson. They had one son, Jeffrey in 1967. After residing in the village of Mossleigh for many years, John, Norien and Jeff moved to what used to be the Pacific Cold Storage Company ranch south of Mossleigh, on June 18, 1979. The farm (ranch) was purchased from Pete and Laura Samaroden. At the farm, John enjoyed all aspects of farming, especially the animals. They also kept busy with Jeff’s activities including hockey, baseball and 4-H.
Norien passed away on June 25, 2009 and John, Jeff and their little dog Bebe continued to reside in the ranch home originally constructed from sandstone blocks in 1907. When John required more care, he moved to the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan where he enjoyed socializing and relaxing.
John is survived by his son Jeff, brothers Barry (Helen) Campbell, David Campbell, brothers-in-law Gordon Will and Larry Umscheid, sisters-in-law Marilyn Nelson and Carol Steiner, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Carrie Campbell, wife Norien, sister Dora Will, sisters-in-law Lorna Francis and Margaret Umscheid, brothers-in-law Art Nelson, Bill Francis and Bill Steiner.
A Celebration of Life will be held December 6, 2024 at 1 pm at the Vulcan United Church, Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating.
