BUDD, Vernie Beatrice (Nee: Warden)  1914 – 2005

Vernie Beatrice (Warden) Budd passed away peacefully at Lethbridge, Alberta on the 22nd of October, 2005 at the generous age of 91 years.

Vernie was born at Reid Hill, Alberta on the 7th of May, 1914. She grew up in an era of technological change, global depression and world wars, all the while nurtured in a large family dedicated to Christ, loving kindness to all, and a house full of music. Vernie attended school at Reid Hill, riding her horse there every day. She spent her high school years at Vulcan, she met Naaman Budd in the fall of 1924. He had come to work for her father on a temporary basis but became a permanent member of the household instead. Vernie and Naaman married in 1933.

After successfully negotiating the 30’s then the second war, they purchased a farm north-east of Vulcan in 1945. Vernie instilled upon her four children a strong Christian faith, a love of gardening and nature, and a profound musical appreciation and talent, which has descended to all her progeny. She was an accomplished piano and organ player, accompanying the congregation at church and children in countless solos. For many years, she arranged the music for the McDougall Stoney Mission Society memorial services at Morley, Alberta.

After Naaman passed away in 1972, Vernie continued to live and enjoy the rural life for another 30 years. She eventually left her beloved farm and lived at lodges in Vulcan, Taber and Lethbridge until her passing.

She was predeceased by her husband Naaman Budd, parents John and Grace (Griffin) Warden, sisters Frances Warden, Eva McDougall and Jean Gardner, brothers Boyd, Ralph and Robert.

Vernie is survived by a sister Hughena (Peter) Rozema of Calgary, brothers Leslie (Shirley) Warden of Regina, Sask. and Cecil (Linda) Warden of St. Albert, and children Warden (Sylvia) Budd of Vulcan, Barbara Hogan of Calgary, Beverley (Tony) Flower of Burdett and Robert (Ruth) Budd of Lethbridge. Her memory is also perpetuated by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Vulcan Central Church of Christ 409-1st South, Vulcan Saturday, 29th day of October, 2005 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating. Interment family plot Vulcan Cemetery.
