Victor John “Vic” Brown passed away June 19, 2007 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 87 years.
Vic was born December 28, 1919 at Hackney, England to John and Ivy Brown. When he was three, the family immigrated to Canada and settled around James River Bridge, Alberta. Vic attended school there and helped his dad with their small farming and logging operation. He ventured forth to Fort St. John, BC where he drove a flat boat during the time that the bridge was built there. Vic joined the Armed Forces in 1942 but was medically discharged. He then went to work at the Ogden Shops in Calgary.
Vic and Bea were married at Gleichen on May 22, 1954. They moved to Shouldice and operated a garage. In 1962 they moved to Gleichen and Vic became the Steward for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #13 at Gleichen. He worked for the Department of Transportation in road maintenance for eighteen years but because of health issues, Vic had to take early retirement
Vic was a very kind, gentle and loving man. He always had a smile or a hug and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Vic enjoyed the outdoors, which included camping and cooking breakfast, and sports, especially hockey. It was always more entertaining to watch Vic during a hockey game than to watch the game. Vic was a wonderful story teller and loved telling or pulling a good joke. He was an avid gardener and his yard was always full of flowers and vegetables. Vic always said that it tasted better fresh. Vic was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion at Gleichen and Strathmore for 54 years.
