Ruby Esther Brown of Vulcan, Alberta passed away January 18, 2008 at Little Bow Continuous Care Centre at Carmangay, Alberta at the age of 82 years.

 

Ruby was born September 20,1925 in the Armada District to John and Ruth Johnson. Ruth passed away in December 1928. Ruby and her sisters, Verna and Clara, were raised by their grandparents, Charles Gay who came out from Summerside, P.E.I. and Elizabeth Gay came out from Buctouche, NB.  Ruby and her sisters lived with Charles and Elizabeth along with their uncles Cameron, Ralph, Bernard, Ray and Roland. In 1932 the three girls, their grandmother and uncles moved to Milo so the girls could start their schooling. In 1936 they moved to Vulcan to continue their education. Ruby married Bob Brown and they continued to reside in Vulcan where they raised their family of seven children. Ruby  was the heart of family life and enjoyed her role as homemaker.  She is remembered for her many hours spent knitting and sewing for her children, grandchildren and their families. Ruby supported her husband Bob with his mechanic work at the County of Vulcan and throughout their time together, even when Bob was overseas during WWII. They loved helping family, traveling and made many trips together to visit family and friends in Canada and the United States.

 

Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband after nearly fifty-four years of marriage on October 2, 1994. Ruby never really got over the loss of Bob and missed him greatly. She was also predeceased by her father, John Johnson, and a sister and brother-in-law Verna (Harvey) Cross.

 

Loving mother of  Edna (Gary) Lomheim of Sonoma, California, Bev (Don) Decker  and Linda (Walter) Vooys all of Lethbridge,  Wayne (Gail) of Champion, Terry (Coreta) and Roger all of Vulcan and Ken (Faye) of St. Ann’s, PEI, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, step mother Helen Johnson of Bowness, step brothers Ed and Fred of Calgary, John of BC, a sister Clara (Ray) Jones of Langley, BC and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Mass Monday, January 28, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at Vulcan with Rev. Fr. Philip Van Tinh Le officiating.

 

Inurement Old Field of Honor, Vulcan Cemetery.
