Brown, Murray Dodd, of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on February 8, 2016 at the age of 86 years.
Murray lived in Dutch Brook, Nova Scotia from 1929 to 1987. He worked at the Sydney Engineering Day Dock as a Pipe Fitter for 28 years before settling in Vulcan during the spring of 1987. Murray enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working on cars and trucks. On weekends, he would spend time camping with family, enjoying firecrackers and fireworks. His hobbies included playing cards, checkers and many jokes as well as down home comedy – Hughie & Allen and Fred Denny. He also appreciated the great music of Stompin’ Tom, Hank Williams, Rita McNeil, Anne Murray and the Rankin Family.
There are many fond memories of Dad, including meeting him at the mailbox after work and riding home with him.
Murray is survived by 6 daughters – Marilyn (Clayton) Foot of Oyen, Marie (Patrick) Foley of Nanaimo, BC, Sandra (Roy) Kelly of Jasper, Linda Ken) Kendell of Edmonton, Rose Brown (Tom Sampson) of Halifax, and Winnifred “Winni” Brown of Nanaimo, B.C.; 6 sons – Murray Brown of Toronto, Carman (Tina) Brown of Nanaimo, BC, Wayne Brown of Toronto, Donald (Barbara) Brown of Florence, Cape Breton, NS, Frederick Brown of Glace Bay, Cape Breton, NS, and Adrian Brown of Airdrie . He is also survived by twenty five grandchildren: Carey, Katie, Nelson, Rose, James, Murray III, Rendell, Amanda, Daniel, Jasmine, Rylan, David, Steven, Justin, Karla, Cody Norris, Karla, Matthew, Joe, Chelsi, Josh, Starla, Robert, Ryan and Preston; eighteen great grandchildren: Jaidyn, Tristen, Braedon, Bentley, Avery, Austin, Caitlyn, Danyka, Felix, Michaela, Caleb, Madison, Matthew, Alexis, Isabella, Isla, Jordan and Jaelyn. Murray will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, daughter-in-law Gwen Brown and many special friends.
Murray was predeceased by his parents Edward Charles and Rosaline Brown, a son Albert Brown, an infant daughter Dorothy, a sister Margaret and two brothers, Edward and Lloyd Brown, as well as four nieces and three nephews.
Graveside Service and Interment was held Friday, February 12 at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan Cemetery, Sue MacDonald, D.M., officiant. Reception was held at the Vulcan Legion Hall afterwards.

Murray was a great friend of Dads through out their entire lives. I will always remember their many stories sitting at our kitchen table. Condolences to Murray’s family, he was a good honest man.
