DALE WILLIAM BROWN OF VULCAN PASSED AWAY MARCH 9, 2002 AT CALGARY, ALBERTA AT THE AGE OF 53 YEARS.

DALE WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 1, 1948 AT PORT ROWAN, ONTARIO TO CHRISTOPHER AND JOYCE BROWN. HE ATTENDED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN VITTORIA, ONTARIO AND RECEIVED HIS SECONDARY EDUCATION AT PORT DOVER, ONTARIO. FOLLOWING HIS SCHOOLING HE BEGAN WORKING FOR THE COUNTY OF NORFOLK AS A SCALES OPERATOR. IN AUGUST OF 1968 HE MARRIED PATRICIA ANN WILSON IN PORT DOVER. DALE THEN WORKED AS A FOREMAN FOR THE MORRISON CONSTRUCTION COMPANY IN SIMCOE, ONTARIO FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. IN 1980 HE MOVED WITH HIS FAMILY TO STAVELY WHERE HE WORKED ON OIL RIGS FOR EIGHT YEARS. IN THE MID EIGHTIES DALE  WORKED THE TAR SANDS AT FORT McMURRAY FOR TWO YEARS. FROM 1987 TO 1991 HE SOLD INSURANCE FOR THE MORRISON INSURANCE BROKERS FIRM AND IN 1991 DALE MOVED TO VULCAN AND PURCHASED THE VULCAN HOTEL WHERE HE HAS CONTINUED TO RESIDE SINCE.

DALE LOVED HIS FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HIS GRANDCHILDREN, EVERY TIME THEY WALKED INTO THE ROOM, HE ASKED “WHERE’S MY HUG AND KISS?” HIS LOVE FOR HIS GRANDCHILDREN WAS SO STRONG THAT HE MADE A SACRIFICE TO HIS OWN HEALTH, AND TOOK THEM ALL TO FLORIDA IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR FOR ONE LAST VACATION.

HE WAS KNOWN TO ALL AS A FUN LOVING, TEASING, STRAIGHT SHOOTER KIND OF MAN. DALE HAD A GIFT THAT NOT ALL MANKIND POSSESS, HE BEFRIENDED MANY A PERSON AND TOOK THEM AT THEIR WORD, MOST OFTEN HE WAS REWARDED WITH THEIR HONESTY AND FRIENDSHIP, ON OCCASION THOUGH, SOME PEOPLE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HIM. FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL REMEMBER THAT HIS MOST UNIQUE HOBBY WAS TERRORIZING PEOPLE. ONCE YOU WERE HIS FRIEND, YOU WERE ALSO ON HIS HIT LIST AND YOU COULD HEAR HIM SAY “ COME TO THE OFFICE”, “TELL ME A STORY” OR “LET’S GO FOR A ROAD TRIP”.

IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS, DALE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN BASEBALL AND HOCKEY. HIS LOVE FOR SPORTS CONTINUED THROUGH THE YEARS AND HE GAVE GENEROUSLY TO THE LOCAL KIDS HOCKEY AND BALL CLUBS.  HIS TRUE PASSION WAS FOR CHILDREN AND HE ALSO DONATED ANNUALLY TO SPONSOR UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS TO GO TO CALAWAY PARK. DALE WAS ALSO AN ACTIVE SPONSOR FOR THE VULCAN SPOCK DAYS RODEO AND SHOW N’ SHINE.

DALE WAS A MEMBER OF THE VULCAN AND DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, AND PAST MEMBER OF THE VULCAN KINSMEN AND CITIZENS ON PATROL.

DALE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER CHRISTOPHER BROWN.

FUNERAL SERVICE THURSDAY MARCH 14, 2002 AT 1:30 P.M. AT THE VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH SUE MacDONALD D.M. OFFICIATING.

HONORARY BEARERS WERE HIS GRANDCHILDREN DALTON BROWN, JESSIE BROWN, BRADY LEISMEISTER AND ELAINA KIEMELE.

CASKET BEARERS BARNEY BROWN, WAYNE KIEMELE, ROGER STEELE, JOHN WALSH, BOB MORRISON AND ERNEST CHURCH.

INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
