JOSEPH HENRY BEATTY, PASSED AWAY JANUARY 25, 2000 AT THE AGE OF 76 YEARS AT PORT COQUITLAM, B.C.
JOE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 4, 1923 AT RED DEER, ALBERTA TO JOSEPH AND AGNES BEATTY, WHERE HE ATTENDED VALLEY CENTRE SCHOOL. JOE WORKED MANY FARMS AND AT THE AGE OF 18 YEARS JOINED THE CALGARY HIGHLANDERS. HE SERVED IN CANADA UNTIL BEING DISCHARGED IN 1944. THAT SAME YEAR HE MARRIED HELEN ANN BRAUTIGAN AT PRELUDE, SASKATCHEWAN. TOGETHER THEY WORKED ON FARMS AND MOVED TO MANY PLACES INCLUDING PENHOLD, ALBERTA WHERE HE WORKED AS A CARPENTER AT THE AIR PORT. THEY MOVED TO VULCAN IN 1959 AND JOE BUILT AND HELEN OPERATED THE NOR-ANN DAIRY BAR CATERING TO TOWN AND HIGHWAY TRAVELERS, HUNGER WITH HAMBURGERS, FRIES AND ICE CREAM. FOR A FEW YEARS HE DROVE THE MILK TRUCK IN VULCAN, UNTIL MOVING TO DUNCAN, B.C. IN 1983 WHERE HE OPENED UP A WOOD WORKING SHOP IN HIS GARAGE AND FOR THE LAST ONE AND A HALF YEARS HE RESIDED IN HOSPITAL AT PORT COQUITLAM.
JOE LOVED TALKING TO PEOPLE, TELLING JOKES, WHERE EVER HE WENT, HE WOULD STOP TO TALK TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN. HE WAS HAPPIEST WHILE WORKING ON A PROJECT IN HIS SHOP, PLAYING CARDS ESPECIALLY CRIB, HE ALSO ENJOYED PLAYING THE LOTTO AND PULLING NEVADA’S.
JOE AND HELEN VOLUNTEERED FOR THE HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION FOR MANY YEARS, JOE WAS ALSO A LIFE MEMBER OF BOTH THE B.P.O. ELKS LODGE AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION AT VULCAN AND THEN AT DUNCAN WHERE HE RECEIVED HIS FIFTY YEAR PIN AND THE OLD AGE PENSIONERS CLUB OF DUNCAN. HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE MASONIC LODGE. AFTER MANY TROUBLED YEARS JOE IS FREE AT LAST.
JOE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, HELEN OF LETHBRIDGE, THREE DAUGHTERS SANDRA (WALLY) PENCE OF POWELL RIVER, B.C., LINDA (BILL) IRVINE AND HEATHER BEATTY ALL OF CALGARY, TWO SONS KEN (TERESA) BEATTY OF BARTONVILLE, TEXAS AND TOM (SUE) BEATTY OF LETHBRIDGE, NINETEEN GRANDCHILDREN, SIXTEEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, A BROTHER AL (DOROTHY) BEATTY OF MARA LAKE, A SISTER, GEORGINA SHEWE OF ARMSTRONG, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
MEMORIAL SERVICE SATURDAY MARCH 4, 2000 AT 2 P.M. AT THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION HALL, VULCAN WITH PADRE DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING.
