John David Welsh Feb. 17, 1929 – Jan. 3, 2012
John Welsh formerly of Turin, Alberta passed away peacefully at Vulcan Health Centre at the age of 82 years with his family at his side.
John was born on the family farm near Keho Lake and farmed in the Newlands area and later moved to the farm at Turin. John enjoyed hunting, camping, travelling and times with friends and family. He enjoyed many winters in Yuma, Arizona and times at Moyie Lake, B.C. John especially enjoyed having fun with his grandchildren.

Massey, Ronald “Ron” Ray formerly of Champion passed away December 28, 2011 at Calgary at the age of 79 years.
Beloved father of two daughters Michele (Curtis) Haimila of Calgary, Lynette Massey of Lethbridge, three sons Mike (Patti), Grant (Cathy), both of Vulcan and Darcy (Lori) Massey of Ft. McMurray, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service Monday, January 9,2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Champion Cemetery with Sue MacDonald officiating.
Celebration Of Life to follow at 1:30 at Vulcan Legion Hall.

BECKNER, Ray
Ray was born in Calgary, Alberta December 5, 1918, he died November 17, 2011 at Bow Island Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. Ray was a grain buyer for United Grain Growers for close to 30 years, working in country elevators throughout Southern Alberta. He married Elfriede “Freda” in 1975 and they moved to Bow Island in 1980, where Ray has continued to reside since.
He is survived by a daughter Butch (Jim) Potter, stepchildren Christel (Frank) Carpenter, Heike Unser Walter (Carol) Krysiak, a sister Doris McLean, numerous nieces and nephews.

VERSLUYS, Margaret “Peggy” Irene 1936 – 2011
Margaret (Peggy) Irene Versluys passed away November 16, 2011 at Lethbridge, Alberta.
Peggy was born on April 5th, 1936 at Edmonton, Alberta to parents Guy and Enid Fraser.
Peggy spent her childhood in Edmonton and later attended the University of Alberta where she completed her Education certificate with a major in Home Economics. She came to Vulcan in 1957 and taught as a circuit teacher throughout the County.
While she was living in Vulcan, she met Donald Versluys and they married on July 16th, 1960. They had four beautiful daughters; Karen, Colleen, Gail and Debbie. As the girls grew up she kept busy

GILLESPIE, Douglas Darryl (Doug) of Lomond passed away November 7, 2011 at Vulcan Community Health Center at the age of 40 years.
Memorial service was held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Lake McGregor Country Estates Club House (Highway 534, 48 km East of Vulcan).

SMITH, EMMA May 17, 1918 – October 14, 2011
Our mother Emma Sloan Smith, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre October 14,2011.
She was also predeceased by her baby boy who lived six hours, two grandsons, Kenneth in 1978 and Reid Karl in 1996, her husband Fay D. Smith in 1981 and Raymond Fath to whom she was married 1996-2002.
We, her children, Sloan, Rita, Carol, Bruce and Kathryn feel privileged to have had our mother’s love for 93 years. We will forever cherish our memories of her and the legacy of wisdom and example she left to us.

LINDSAY, Mary (nee: Slater) was born on October 6, 1918 at Lorlie, SK.
Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Vulcan Community Health Centre, Long Term Care unit on October 3, 2011, just 3 days short of her 93rd birthday.
Mary grew up in Saskatchewan, east of Regina, moving to Laverna (north of Alsask) when she was seven years old. She experienced the harsh realities as well as the joys of family and neighbors during the 1920s and Dirty Thirties.
Mary had a calling to become a teacher. After attending Normal School in Calgary, she taught in a one-room school near
BROWN, Marjorie 1949 – 2011
BROWN, Marjorie passed away September 29th, 2011 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge at the age of 62 years.
Marj’s husband Dave predeceased her on January 14, 2007 at Vulcan at the age of 66 years.
A Memorial Gathering for both Marjorie and Dave was held Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Vulcan Golf and Country Club House. Inurnment has taken place for Dave in the Vulcan Cemetery Columbarium and for Marj, at a later date.

BARNES, Joyce Marie 1948 – 2011
BARNES, Joyce Marie, beloved wife of Ron Barnes of Vulcan passed away suddenly near Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 63 years.
Joyce was born in Empress, AB in 1948 to Frank and Margaret Marshall. Joyce and Ron were married in 1967 in Medicine Hat. In 1968, they moved to the Family farm and started their family.
Joyce is survived by her beloved husband Ronald (Ron) Barnes of Vulcan, Alberta, her son Jim (Leigh-Anna) Barnes of Calgary, Alberta,their children Conor, Hunter and Louis, her daughter Rhonda (Darcy) Dugdale of Vulcan, and their children Graham, Owen, Elizabeth and Weston.
