CHESTER ALLEN ARMEY, FORMERLY OF ARROWWOOD, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 13, 1998 AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 89 YEARS.

CHESTER WAS BORN DECEMBER 16, 1908 AT NANTON, ALBERTA.. HE CAME WITH HIS PARENTS FRANK AND NELLIE ARMEY AND FOUR SISTERS TO ARROWWOOD IN 1917. CHESTER ATTENDED GRADE SCHOOL IN ARROWWOOD, AND HIGH SCHOOL IN PORTLAND, OREGON, WHERE HE MAJORED IN AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS. AFTER GRADUATION IN 1928, HE RETURNED TO ARROWWOOD TO HELP HIS FATHER ON THE FARM AND IN 1935 TOOK OVER THE OPERATION.

CHESTER MARRIED THURZA GATES IN 1939 AND TOGETHER THEY FARMED UNTIL THEY RETIRED IN 1970 AND MOVED INTO THE TOWN OF ARROWWOOD. HIS LOVE OF CARPENTRY AND WOODWORKING SHOWED IN THE MANY KITCHEN CUPBOARDS AND FURNITURE PIECES THAT HE MADE. CHESTER AND THURZA TRAVELED MANY YEARS TO TEXAS FOR THE WINTER, AND ALSO ENJOYED SUMMER TIME EXCURSIONS, ESPECIALLY TO THE MOUTAINS. IN HIS EARLY YEARS, CHESTER WAS ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHERN WHERE HE SERVED MANY YEARS AS DEACON, TREASURER, AND SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT. LATER HE WAS ACTIVE IN THE UNITED CHURCH WHERE HE WAS AN ELDER. IN 1997 THEY MOVED TO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE AND LATER TO THE LONGTERM CARE UNIT OF THE HOSPITAL, WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. THURZA ARMEY OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS, LINDA BARNES OF LETHBRIDGE AND NADINE (HUBERT) BEXTE OF ARROWWOOD, ONE SON GERALD ( BRENDA) OF ARROWWOOD, SIX GRANDCHILDREN, ELEVEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, TWO BROTHERS-IN-LAW GEORGE ROBERTS OF ARROWWOOD AND ERNIE NORTON OF CASTOR, NUMEROUS NIECES, NEPHEWS AND COUSINS.

CHESTER WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS, FOUR SISTERS THETA (BERT) SIMMIE, PERAL (ARCHIE) HARRISON, LOLA ROBERTS, IRMA NORTON, AN INFANT SON, A GRAND SON FRED BEXTE, GRANDDAUGHTER-IN-LAW DAWN BEXTE.

FUNERAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 18, 1998 AT 2:00 P.M. AT ARROWWOOD COMMUNITY HALL WITH CAROLYN NICHOLSON D.M. OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT ARROWWOOD CEMETERY.

HONORARY BEARERS WERE; MARY CATHERINE ARMEY-COPLEY, GEORGE ROBERTS, HURLEY WILLIAMS, RON BEAGLE AND RICHARD JACKSON.

CASKET BEARERS WERE; DAVID BEXTE, CODY BEXTE, RICHARD ARMEY, JENNY FIKE AND ANGELA BEEZA.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIAL TRIBUTES IN CHESTER’S MEMORY COULD BE MADE TO EITHER THE ARROWWOOD UNITED CHURCH, ARROWWOOD TOL OBO OR VULCAN FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT SERVICES BOX 594 , VULCAN TOL 2BO.
