EDITH FRANCES “EDO” ANDREWS, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT VULCAN, ALBERTA AUGUST 30, 1998 AT THE AGE OF 84 YEARS SURROUNDED BY HER LOVING FAMILY.

EDITH WAS BORN DECEMBER 10, 1913 AT DUNDURN, SASKATCHEWAN TO HAROLD AND RHODA ROW. EDITH CAME BY HER NICK NAME AT AN EARLY AGE, HER BROTHER WAS UNABLE TO PRONOUNCE EDITH, SO HE CALLED HIS SISTER EDO AND THE NAME REMAINED WITH HER. EDO RODE HORSEBACK TO AND FROM SCHOOL, WHICH WAS A FEW MILES FROM THE FAMILY FARM. SHE LOVED HORSES AND LATER TAUGHT HER CHILDREN TO RIDE. AS A TEENAGER IN DUNDURN, EDO PLAYED HOCKEY ON THE LOCAL GIRLS HOCKEY TEAM, AN INTEREST SHE LATER NURTURED IN HER SON.

MUSIC WAS A LIFE LONG PASSION FOR EDO. SHE RECEIVED HER TEACHING CERTIFICATE FROM THE ROYAL TORONTO CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC IN HER LATE TEEN’S AND TAUGHT PIANO FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, INSTILLING THAT INTEREST IN HER DAUGHTER. IN FACT IT WAS HER LOVE OF MUSIC THAT BROUGHT SHE AND CHARLIE ANDREWS TOGETHER, AS THEY MET AT A DANCE IN CALGARY IN 1948. SHE HAD MOVED TO CALGARY WITH HER FAMILY FROM SASKATCHEWAN AND WAS WORKING IN LADIES WEAR AT EATONS AT THAT TIME. SHE AND CHARLIE WERE MARRIED IN 1950 AND MOVED TO THEIR FARM NORTHWEST OF VULCAN. EIGHT YEARS LATER THEY MOVED TO THE FARM ELEVEN MILES EAST OF VULCAN WHERE THEY RESIDED UNTIL MOVING TO TOWN IN 1980. EDO MOVED INTO EXTENDICARE AFTER HER BIRTHDAY IN 1997 WERE SHE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

THROUGHOUT HER LIFE, EDO EXEMPLIFIED THE JOY OF LIVING AND THE LOVE OF PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN . SHE THRIVED ON THE BEAUTY OF NATURE ENJOYING PICNICS AND CAMPING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND TRAVELING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. SHE AND CHARLIE WINTERED IN ARIZONA FROM 1972 TO 1987 AND LATER MADE TRIPS TO THE WEST COAST, MARITIMES, HAWAII AND ALASKA.

EDO WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL COOK AND CERTAINLY LIKED TO FEED PEOPLE. SHE ALSO ENJOYED HER GLASS OF WINE AND DINING OUT, ESPECIALLY ON LOBSTER TAILS WHICH SHE RELISHED LAST NOVEMBER IN BANFF WITH HER FAMILY.

EDO LOVED HER FAMILY, FOCUSING A GREAT DEAL OF CARE AND ATTENTION ON HER HUSBAND, CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. SHE TAUGHT SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS, WAS A BROWNIE LEADER FOR SEVERAL, AND INSURED THAT BOTH SHE AND HER CHILDREN LEARNED TO SWIM. SHE CONTINUED SWIMMING UNTIL JUST TWO YEARS AGO AND OFTEN SWAM FORTY LENGTHS EACH DAY AT THE VULCAN POOL. SHE ALSO LOVED TO WALK AND MANAGED TWO MILES A DAY WITH CHARLIE UNTIL RECENTLY. ON ONE OCCASION WITH HER SON GEORGE IN 1967, SHE WALKED WITH HIM TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE NEW ARENA AND ENCOURAGED HIM TO FINISH THE TWENTY FIVE MILES WITH HER.

EDO GOT A GREAT DEAL OF PLEASURE FROM HER LIFE ON THE FARM AND HER INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY. SHE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE UNITED CHURCH WOMEN AND FOR MANY YEARS CONVENED ONE GROUP THAT PREPARED FRIED CHICKEN SUPPERS FOR THE LIONS CLUB. SHE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE LADIES AUXILIARY TO THE LEGION AND THE VULCAN LIONETTES. FOR TEN YEARS, EDO AND CHARLIE TRANSPORTED ITEMS DONATED BY THE COMMUNITY TO HARBOUR HOUSE IN LETHBRIDGE.

EDO ALWAYS HAD TIME FOR SOMEBODY ELSE. HER WARM SMILE AND CARING WORDS WERE FAMILIAR TO ALL WHO KNEW HER. DURING ANY DIFFICULT TIMES IN HER LIFE, SHE DEPENDED UP HER STRONG FAITH TO SEE HER THROUGH.
