Marcella Gertrude (Cross) Moore of Carmangay, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on November 16th, 2024, at the Vulcan Extendicare with family at her bedside. Marcella was born on May 25, 1932 to Merlin and Elizabeth Cross of Rimbey, Alberta.
Marcella was known for her strength and strong faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ, and that same soul carried on into her kitchen and garden; she loved to cook and shared her gift in the kitchen with family and friends. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and of course her late husband Billy (William Robert) Moore.
Marcella will be remembered by her beloved children, Russell (Angela) Moore, Patrick (Linda) Moore, the late Gerry (Karen) Moore, Mark (Denise) Moore and her sister-in-law Marjorie Moore.
Marcella is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Tami, Angela, Stacey, Chad, Ryan, Ryan, and Devin, along with her 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcella was predeceased by her husband William ‘Billy’ Moore, her son Gerry Moore, along with her brothers, Morrie (Margaret), Harvey (Verna), Bob “Tiny” Cross, and parents; Merlin and Elizabeth Cross, Mother and Father-in-Law; Marguerite “Mickey” and Robert (Bud) Moore and brother-in-law Ken Moore.
Marcella spent her early years growing up in the Rimbey area and finished her schooling in Carmangay, Alberta. Marcella met the love of her life, Billy Moore and they married in 1952 at the St. Joseph’s Church in Coalhurst, Alberta. They had their four boys and raised them on the family farm on the outskirts of Carmangay.
Marcella was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church in Carmangay and Champion, Alberta. She had an unwavering faith; always donating time and unending support to the parish, attending masses regularly, loved to read her Bible and pray the Rosary at her kitchen table. Marcella also travelled to Medjugorje in 1991, along with Father Gilles Le Blanc and friends.
Marcella and Billy loved their family and the grandkids have many fond memories; playing board games, checking the crops, checking on the cows, playing in the farmyard, enjoying litters of puppies, cooking with grandma and sitting at her kitchen table painting fingernails. The grandchildren also remember taking many trips to the Lethbridge Lodge Hotel and Restaurant for dinner with grandpa and grandma and enjoying a walk through the fancy hotel afterwards with a balloon in hand. There was also a rule at Gramma’s house: you eat! Gramma Marcella was an amazing cook, and you would never leave her home hungry.
A private family graveside service will be held on a later date at the Carmangay Cemetery.
