Stephen ‘Clive’ Edwards of Lomond, Alberta, beloved husband of Sharon, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on October 14, 2024 at the age of 74 years.
Clive was born July 25, 1950 in Birkenhead, England, son of Robert and Edna Edwards. At 18 months old the family immigrated to Montreal, QC. A year later they moved to Sydney, NS where Clive was joined by a brother, Robert and followed by a sister, Susan. In the early 1960s the Edwards family moved to North Vancouver, BC where they stayed for many years.
Clive was living in North Vancouver with his long-time friend Daye Dancer when they decided to cobble together a working Cadillac from their two vehicles to drive 22 hours down to San Diego to attend a seven day EST training session. His love of motorcycles began early when he rode across Canada to drop a friend off in Quebec City. The bike broke down in Toronto where he spent a year repairing it for the return ride. His love of motorcycles continued through the years with memberships in several clubs.
Clive attended Langara College in Vancouver, BC for 3 years majoring in theatre. Creative writing courses at Capilano College, North Vancouver, started a love of words. He had a column with the Province Magazine as well as a number of freelance articles published over the years After graduation from the acting program at Studio 58 in Vancouver, BC, he formed his own theatre company with his friend Dennis Eberts called Market Place Theatre. Their first production called Spring Awakening; he designed as well as performed in. He loved to participate in Theatre Sport and did Street Performances. Clive also worked for a time in London, England in theatre. While overseas he attended his long-time friend Jack Rigg’s wedding in Amman, Jordan. Clive explored Petra and the Dead Sea before returning to England.
Clive was the Set Decorator on Emmy award winning SCTV while in Edmonton, AB during the 1980’s. CBC Vancouver brought Clive a stint in the Props department. Clive Edwards loved making television, film and theatre productions.
While taking a break from the film industry, Clive worked as a Consultant and Promoter for Soft Warehouse Ltd. He also concentrated more on his writing while tending bar. One night he overheard our mutual friend, Simmone Vautier’s conversation about Cleo Lane. He wanted to know who Simmone knew that was inviting her to see Cleo Lane and promptly said he wanted to meet her. Thus began a 40 year loving relationship.
After returning to IATSE 891 in time for Expo 86, he first worked in the Set Dec department before switching to Props. He was a past president of the Props Department and former trustee for IATSE 891. He travelled across Canada completing countless productions over the mid 1980’s until retirement in 2014. While most of the productions were in British Columbia, film folk go where the work is.
A lifelong supporter of the shooting sports and RKBA, Clive was an avid IPSC shooter, NRA certified Pistol Instructor, Entertainment Industry Firearms Safety Advisory Level 2 certified and held life-long memberships with both the NRA and Canada’s NFA where he wrote several articles for its magazine. He was a past member and president of the Chilliwack Fish and Game Protective Association.
He was a man of many talents: a musician, a promoter, an actor, a writer, a designer, a film worker, a firearms enthusiast, a motorcyclist, a step-father and a loving husband. He was one of a kind and I was privileged to be with him for all those years.
Besides his loving wife Sharon and her two children Sherry Schell and Samantha Wohlwend, and granddaughter Alessia Bortolussi.. Clive is also survived by his sister Susan and Eugene Wandell-Johns, nephew James (Jamie) and Aarika Wandell, nieces Sarah and Justin Wandell-Johns, and Gina and David Barnes and three great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edna Edwards and his brother Robert Edwards.
