Dora Mae Schuler of Vulcan, passed away suddenly at her home on August 25, 2022 at the age of 89 years.
Dora was born November 10, 1932, at Lake Four, Saskatchewan, the 3rd eldest child of Fred and Gwen (Faber) Schuler. Dora received her childhood education at Lake Four, Saskatchewan, going to grade 8.
Dora travelled and worked through Western Canada for several years. In 1958 she took a trip to Hawaii and upon her return she moved to Vulcan to help her Aunt Margaret (Schuler) Hanna after her Uncle Jack was killed. She lived on a farm north of Vulcan where she spent many years breeding and showing dogs. Her favorite breed was the Australian Shepherd. On the farm she had the typical livestock as well – horses, chickens and sheep. She would spin the wool from the sheep and sell. She also talked a quite bit about the trips she took to Las Vegas with her niece and some of the trouble they would get into.
Ed and Ruthie (Hanna) Davis moved a travel trailer onto the farm and they spent several summers there with Dora. Ruthie was Dora’s best friend and they spent a lot of time together after they both moved into Vulcan.
Dora loved to cook; she was always supplying everyone with a meal. When she put on her family dinners you never went away hungry, and Dora made sure you left with enough food for a meal or two at home. Dora enjoyed going to the meat draws at the Legion and was always very lucky.
Dora is survived by her sister Jean (Norman) Richards, brothers Robert (Merelyn), Richard (Brenda) and sisters-in-law Isobel Schuler and Connie Schuler and numerous nieces and nephews. Dora was predeceased by her parents Fred and Gwen Schuler, sisters Hazel Carlson, Grace Doucette, Irene Tardiff and Nancy Schuler, brothers Clifford and Denis Schuler, brothers-in-law Dennis Carlson, Leo Tardiff and Albert Doucette.
A family graveside inurnment will be held at 11:00 am on September 7, 2022 at the Vulcan Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held September 7, 2022, at the Vulcan Legion Hall at 1:30 pm.
