DAVIS, Ruth Jean 1925 – 2021

Ruth Davis, of Vulcan, passed away at Vulcan Extendicare on May 30, 2021 at the age of 95 years.

Ruth lived a life of adventure and did so with enthusiasm and an unshakeable positive attitude. She was a loving, involved mother, an adoring wife and generous friend. A very humble woman who never took credit for her many accomplishments and simply dismissed compliments.

She loved everyone and everyone loved her. Ruth grew up on a farm north of Vulcan with wonderful, hardworking parents. Rode to school on horseback and even dog sled. Although she lived many years in Calgary, the farm was always “home”. As an entrepreneur, she travelled the world and took many grateful people along for the ride. She was a square dancer, a clogger, a bridge player, a horsewoman and an animal lover. Her passion for dogs brought comfort to many hospital shut-ins and entertained school children all over Calgary.

She loved her stepchildren, Joyce, Nikki, Sherri & Randy and felt blessed to have them in her life. Her grandchildren and children Patricia (John) John Ablett; Norman (Max) Christie; Brenda (Robert) Clark; Susan (Dave) Peters; Bill (Linda) Christensen and her best friend Dora Schuler will cherish her memory and be always grateful for the love, compassion and wisdom she gave to all who knew her.

This classy lady joins her husband Ed, her infant daughter Lori, her great grandson Clayton, her stepdaughter Joyce and parents Margaret & Jack Hanna . She does so in peace and with dignity due to the amazing care she has received from Dr. Hudson & the staff at Vulcan Extendicare.

Please don’t send flowers but a donation to your local humane society would certainly make her smile.

Cremation has taken place with a private family gathering arranged for a future date

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home. Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.

When Grandma Ruth married Gramps I think the whole family fell in love with her. I could always see the happiness she brought him and she always made us feel like we had always been family. I am happy she was part of our family.
    Rest In Peace Grandma Ruth

Well … what can I say!?! Ruth Davis … of Personalized Tours and Travel … helped inspire my love of travel and I was just one of many who followed along with her and Ed to Hawaii … to South America (40 years ago this year) … and to other world wide destinations! Indeed, Ruth was a good friend to many and had a loyal and devoted following. Her “post travel picture parties” with friendship, fun, and food made Ruth “everyone’s favourite travel agent”. I very much regret I did not know Ruth had returned to a Vulcan as I would have loved to have reconnected … we lost touch decades ago but in my mind’s eye she will always be that fun, energetic, attractive 55 year old who through her friend ways, travel acumen, and reassurance brought world travel to many, many people who would not have ventured out had Ruth and Ed not been leading the pack! Ruth will be missed, and long remembered….and somehow I know that she will be totally comfortable embarking on this … her final great journey!
