JONES, R. ELMER PASSED AWAY AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL ON DECEMBER 11, 1990 AT THE AGE OF 71 YEARS.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. JEAN JONES OF VULCAN AND LOVING FATHER OF THREE DAUGHTERS AND THEIR HUSBANDS; GLORIA JEAN (ORIE) HRYCYK OF LETHBRIDGE, RUTH ANN (JOHN) STUKART OF INDUS AND DORAIN (DOUG) SCHMIDT OF COALHURST, TWO SONS BOB AND HIS WIFE DONNA OF LETHBRIDGE AND KEN AND HIS WIFE ELAINE OF OLDS, FIVE STEP SONS; JIM (JEAN) CONNOLLY OF GEORGETOWN, ONTARIO, JACK CONNOLLY OF CAROLINE, BOB (GALE) CONNOLLY OF VULCAN, DENNIS (BRENDA) CONNOLLY OF RED DEER AND LARRY CONNOLLY OF CALGARY, TWO STEP DAUGHTERS JANET (DOUG) CLARKE OF KINGSTON, ONTARIO AND SUSAN (DARYL) GILBERT OF RED DEER, TEN GRANDCHILDREN, FOURTEEN STEP GRANDCHILDREN, TWO BROTHERS RAY (DOROTHY) OF CRANBROOK AND LES (FERN) OF CORNWALL, P.E.I, AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

ELMER WAS PREDECEASED BY A SISTER ELSIE HALL IN 1983, HIS FIRST WIFE CLARA IN 1973, HIS FATHER ROLFEE ERNEST AND HIS MOTHER PEARL MAE.

ELMER WAS BORN AT MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA ON FEBRUARY 13, 1919. HE ATTENDED SCHOOL AT PARKLAND, BEAVER VALLEY, NANTON, MARSHALL, REID HILL AND CAME TO VULCAN IN 1934. HE LEFT HOME TO WORK AND LIVE ON FARMS IN THE LACOMBE AND PONOKA AREAS. IN 1941 HE MARRIED CLARA HOWERTON. HE SERVED OVERSEAS WITH THE CANADIAN GRENADIER GUARDS AND WHEN HE RETURNED HE WORKED FOR ALEX RINALDI TRADE WORKING AS A MASON. THEN HE WORKED FOR REVELSTOKE LUMBER. HE OPERATED THE SKATING RINK AND SWIMMING POOL FOR TWO YEARS. HE TOOK A CALL OUT POSITION WITH THE CALGARY HIGHLANDERS UNTIL 1960, WHEN HE WENT FULL TIME AS A CAFE OPERATOR WHICH HE HAD DONE FOR TWENTY YEARS.

IN JANUARY 1977, HE REMARRIED A WIDOW MRS. JEAN CONNOLLY THEY CONTINUED TO RESIDE IN VULCAN. ELMER LOVED HIS FAMILY AND SPOILING ALL THE GRANDCHILDREN. HE ALSO ENJOYED CAMPING, FISHING AND WORKING WITH THE BOY SCOUTS AT CAMP IMPEESA. WHEN HE WAS IN GOOD HEALTH HE HAD A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN OF FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES.

HE WAS A MEMBER OF ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 21, WHERE HE SERVED AS PAST PRESIDENT VULCAN. HE WORKED WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF CANADA, CALGARY HIGHLANDERS MILITIA. HE WAS ALSO A PAST MEMBER OF THE REID HILL BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE HE WENT OUT ON GOSPEL TEAMS WITH DOUG AND ALLEN SMITH, BOB GANYEA, BILL WEELE AND LLOYD JONES TO NAME A FEW AND HE ATTENDED THE CHURCH OF CHRIST IN VULCAN.

FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1990 AT 1:30 P.M. AT CHURCH OF CHRIST, VULCAN WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE AND REV. JIM CHAPMAN OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY. HONOR GUARD BY MEMBERS OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION #21, VULCAN.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE ORIE HRYCYK, MERLE SMITH, OTT DELL, CHARLIE BOUTLAND, GORDON GARDNER, DOUG SMITH, RICK WILLIAMS AND IAN WOODMAN.

ACTIVE PALLBEARERS WERE DENNIS CONNOLLY, DARYL GILBERT, SANDY HRYCYK, DOUG SCHMIDT, JOHN STUKART AND TERRY DELL.
