HAYES, Stewart Junius, beloved husband of Margaret Eleanore (Ella) of Arrowwood, passed away suddenly in Gleichen on November 20, 1990 at the age of 78 years.
Besides his loving wife, Stewart is survived by one son Ronald Hayes of Calgary, three daughters, Lois Leadbeater of Shouldice, Carolyn (Duane) Binning of Standard and Susan (Marven) Schalin of Arrowwood; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers; Denton (Mildred) Black of Salt Lake City, Herman (Neno) Hayes of Victoria, Walter (Olive) Hayes of Gleichen and two sisters; Verona (Glen) Hought of Arizona), Ralphene (Elmer) Bolinger of Gleichen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Stewart was predeceased by a son-in-law Walter Leadbeater in 1984, and a grandson Dennis Binning in 1972.
Stewart was born in Gleichen on June 25, l9l2, the son of R.B. and Maud Hayes. He attended school at Shamrock and Calgary. He married Ella Robinson on November 18, 1934 in Gleichen. They moved to the farm east of Arrowwood in March of 1935 and have resided there ever since, except for 5 years in Calgary.
Stewart dedicated his life to farming, his family and his community. He served on the Bow Valley School Board, was a Charter Member of the Arrowwood Lions Club, served as a director of the Queenstown Seed Cleaning Plant, Councillor of the County of Vulcan, and was an active participant in many community projects. Stewart enjoyed many years of camping with his wife Ella, family and friends. In later years he and Ella enjoyed their winter months in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held in the Arrowwood Community Hall at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 1990, Rev..Ernie Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at the Arrowwood Cemetery.
