KEITH ROBERT COCHRANE PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT CALGARY, ALBERTA OCTOBER 29, 1990 AT THE AGE OF 70 YEARS.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. PAULETTE COCHRANE OF ARROWWOOD, LOVING FATHER OF THREE DAUGHTERS, MARG SCHWEER, JOYCE AND HER HUSBAND GORDON ROE AND CAROL GORZITZA, A GRANDSON FRANK KOHUT, THREE GRANDDAUGHTERS – AMANDA, SARAH AND LAURA ROE ALL OF VULCAN, A BROTHER ALLEN AND HIS WIFE JEANETTE OF CALGARY, A SISTER PHYLLIS WILLIAMS OF ARROWWOOD, AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

KEITH WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS WAYNE AND HANNA, A SON JOHN, AND A SON-IN-LAW DARRELL GORZITZA.

KEITH WAS BORN IN ARROWWOOD ON JUNE 28, 1920. HIS FATHER WAYNE AND MOTHER HANNA, WITH THEIR THREE CHILDREN, ALLEN, PHYLLIS AND KEITH, LIVED FOR YEARS IN “THE COULEE”, ONE AND A HALF MILES SOUTH OF TOWN. HE ATTENDED ARROWWOOD SCHOOL AND LATER, OLDS SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE. IN 1939 HE WORKED FOR A FOREST RANGER AT, JUMPING POUND RANGER STATION. KEITH’S LOVE OF NATURE AND DEEP ATTACHMENT TO THE DUTCH CREEK AREA PROBABLY STARTED FROM HIS TIME SPENT THERE. HE THEN JOINED THE ARMY IN THE SPRING OF 1941; WAS WOUNDED IN 1944 IN NORMANDY AND SHIPPED BACK TO ENGLAND. KEITH LATER REJOINED HIS OUTFIT IN HOLLAND AND AFTER THE WAR HE MET PAULETTE SWART. BY THE TIME KEITH RETURNED HOME HIS FATHER HAD BOUGHT THE LYLE PLACE THREE AND A HALF MILES WEST OF ARROWWOOD.

AFTER CORRESPONDING FOR SEVERAL YEARS, PAULETTE CAME TO CANADA AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 1948 AFTER ONE OF THE WORST BLIZZARDS THE AREA HAD EVER HAD. THEY WERE LATER MARRIED ON JUNE 30, 1948 AT THE CENTRAL UNITED CHURCH IN CALGARY. KEITH AND PAULETTE MOVED A SMALL HOUSE THAT WAS IN THE COULEE TO HIGHER GROUND AND PRACTICALLY REBUILT IT. KEITH USED TO RECALL MANY HAPPY MEMORIES HE SPENT AT THE COULEE. IN 1951 THEY MOVED TO THE PEDERSON (OR FONGER) PLACE WHERE THEY STILL RESIDE.

KEITH WAS A VERY ACTIVE MEMBER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION #13 AT GLEICHEN. HE ALSO SERVED ON THE UNITED CHURCH BOARD OF STEWARDS.

IN KEITH’S LATER YEARS, HE ENJOYED TRAVELLING WITH PAULETTE TO MESA, ARIZONA DURING THE WINTER MONTHS WHERE THEY HAD A TRAILER IN SUN LIFE PARK. THEY MADE MANY WONDERFUL FRIENDS AND LOVED THEIR TIME SPENT THERE. DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS KEITH AND PAULETTE TRAVELLED IN THEIR MINI-HOME WHENEVER THE, “RETIRED” KEITH WOULD TAKE TIME OFF THE TRACTOR. HIS LOVE OF THE LAND NEVER ENDED.

HE WAS A VERY DEVOTED FAMILY MAN AND ALWAYS TREATED THEM WITH KINDNESS AND HONESTY. ALTHOUGH KEITH AND PAULETTE ENDURED HARDSHIPS THROUGH THE YEARS, THEIR DEEP LOVE FOR EACH OTHER KEPT THEIR FAMILY TOGETHER AND STRONG. KEITH ALWAYS ENJOYED GOOD COMPANY AND HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY MANY FRIENDS FOR HIS COOKIES, COFFEE AND CONVERSATION. ALTHOUGH HIS PASSING WAS SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED, HIS FAMILY IS THANKFUL FOR THE MANY YEARS OF LOVE AND WONDERFUL MEMORIES HE HAS LEFT THEM.
