FERNAND DONAT “FERNIE” POMERLEAU PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY IN CALGARY ON OCTOBER 25, 1990 AT THE AGE OF 75 YEARS.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. DOROTHY POMERLEAU OF VULCAN, HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY A BROTHER ADELARD AND HIS WIFE JACQUELINE IN QUEBEC, TWO SISTERS ROSE HELENE JOHAIN OF MONTREAL AND ADRIENNE AND HER HUSBAND ELIE BILLDEAU OF ST. ODILON, QUEBEC, A SISTER-IN-LAW AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER DONAT AND MOTHER DELPHINA, THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.
FERNIE WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER 2, 1914 AT FRAMPTON, QUEBEC. HE WORKED IN THE LABOR CAMPS, RODE THE RAILS AND LIVED IN HOBO CAMPS UNTIL TAKING A WORK EXCURSION TOUR WEST TO HIS COUSINS PLACE IN THE RED DEER AREA IN 1940. HE WORKED ON MANY FARMS IN THE AREA AND PURCHASED A FARM OF HIS OWN. HE HAD ONE COW THAT HE WOULD TAKE WITH HIM WHEREVER HE WENT AND ALSO SOLD FIREWOOD. HE SOLD THE FARM AND WENT BACK WORKING FOR FARMERS. HE CAME TO THE DONALDA AREA NEAR STETTLER THEN TO MILO WHERE HE WORKED FOR MR. VOOYS FOR MANY YEARS. HE MET DOROTHY IN 1960 AND THEY WERE MARRIED 6 YEARS LATER IN CALGARY ON OCTOBER 28, 1966. THEY MOVED TO ARROWWOOD IN 1975 THEN CAME TO VULCAN IN 1981 WHERE THEY HAVE RESIDED SINCE. FERNIE WAS HIS OWN MAN AND HE LOVED TO VISIT. HE ENJOYED GARDENING, ESPECIALLY TOMATOES. HE WAS GOOD WITH ANIMALS ESPECIALLY FIGS. HE ALSO ENJOYED LONG DRIVES.
HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS IN QUEBEC. HIS FAITH WAS VERY STRONG AND THE ROSARY WAS A CLOSE COMPANION.
FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO MEET WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1990 AT 7:30 PM AT ST. ANDREWS CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR PRAYERS.
FUNERAL MASS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1990 AT 11 AM WITH FR. GILLES LEBLANC CELEBRANT. INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
