June Degenstein 1935-2020

June passed away at Bethany Riverview in Calgary in January 2020 at the age of 84.

June was born in Rockglen, Saskatchewan in 1935 to Stewart and Edith Joiner. The family moved across Canada during the war and settled in Vulcan. After high school, June worked as a bank teller in a Vulcan and High River. June met Peter at a local dance and they married in 1960. They lived in Lomond and Vulcan and had four children, Brenda, David, Karen and Deb. June stayed at home while the children were young and then worked at the IGA, Vulcan Transport, Hail and Crop Insurance. The family enjoyed camping, family trips, sports and games. Peter and June enjoyed golf and visits with family and friends in their senior years. June especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff for the exceptional care that June was provided at Vulcan hospital, Nanton Silver Willow Lodge, Bethany Care and Bethany Riverview in Calgary.

June was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents, sisters Margaret and Marilyn and grandson Devan. June is survived by her children Brenda (Steve) Schlaht, David, Karen and Deb Degenstein; grandchildren Karissa (Steve), Sherise, Jayden (Cara), Garrett (Gabby), Braydn, Carson, Alycia (Jason), Rachelle (Alex) and Perrin; great-grandsons Gabriel and Bodhi; sister Glenna, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service Friday January 10, 2020 at 1pm at Christ Church Anglican in Nanton. 2306 20 St.

    We wanted to pass on our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies on the passing of June. Bill was close to her and her husband, Peter and family and has fond memories of them and their children while growing up and raising their families in Lomond.

    I was saddened to learn of June’s passing. Oh what great memories I have of living in Lomond during my early teaching days and the great times enjoyed at parties with June & Peter and their many Lomond friends! June’s winning smile was always a welcome sight. Sending my love and sympathy

    Dear Brenda, Steve, and family. It was so nice to get to know June through our Christ Church services and events. Our prayers are for many treasured memories to recall when the sad times sneak in.

    My sympathy goes out to all the Degenstein Family on June’s passing. She and Peter and their kids were an important part of the Lomond community for many years, and they are still well remembered here! The last years have been challenging for June and while we all realize she is in a better place she will be very much missed!
