MASSIE, Eugene “Gene” Shane   1952 – 2018

Massie, Eugene, formerly of Carmangay, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 27, 2018 at the age of 65 years.

Gene was born in Calgary to Phyllis and Gordon Massie on July 29, 1952. He was raised in Calgary before moving to Carmangay. He was the caretaker for the Carman Manor for many years. As well, he worked many other jobs, helping Volk’s building movers, painting, and ice rink caretaker, amongst others. One of the most memorable jobs was when he wrote the Carmangay News column for the Vulcan Advocate as Geno Mass.

Gene was an immensely talented artist and he could draw and craft pictures out of thin air. He loved music and could usually name a song within the first note, Elvis Presley was a favorite. He had a quick wit and great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.

Gene was predeceased by his beloved family. His brother Dana in 1975, his mother Phyllis in 2001, his father Gordon in 2002, and his sister Lynda in 2010. He is survived by a nephew, Courtney Tuckwood and his family of Surrey BC.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place in Carmangay at a later date.
