Andrus, Glen Russel, of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre February 18, 2016 at the age of 87 years.
Glen was born September 17, 1928 in Wollaston, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army at around the age of 18 and was based in Ontario for 19 years, where he also served overseas in Egypt. He later moved to Calgary with his wife Pauline in 1972 before moving to Vulcan, AB where Glen has resided since. Glen and his niece Val Beck spent a lot of time together since Pauline passed away and they provided great companionship for each other. Glen’s great-niece Carol also assisted with his daily needs during the past year.
Glen loved fishing, camping, travel, socializing, story-telling and being a member of the Vulcan Fish and Game. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was always willing to help anyone in need. During his retirement years, Glen worked for Vulcan Ford picking up new vehicles and delivering them back to the dealership. He will be missed but fondly remembered by many.
Glen is survived by his son Rick, three step daughters Diane Sunderland, Linda Versluis and Judy Baldwin, step-son Michael Mittelstadt, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Thurlow and Mary Andrus, two daughters, Jill and Mary Lou, two brothers – Reg and Eugene, a sister Leatha Sunderland, his beloved wife Pauline Andrus in 2007, a stepson Dwayne in 2012 and special friend Doreen Polowyk in 2014.
Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery, Field of Honor II Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11 am and Memorial Reception from 2 to 4 pm at the Vulcan Legion Hall, Pastor David Sarsons officiating.
