BARNES, MARY EDITH PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL JULY 2, 1991 AT THE AGE OF 81 YEARS.
EDITH WAS BORN AUGUST 2, 1909 ON THE FARM ELEVEN MILES NORTHWEST OF GRANUM, ALBERTA IN THE NORTHERN LIGHT DISTRICT. SHE ATTENDED NORTHERN LIGHT AND CLARESHOLM HIGH SCHOOL. SHE WORKED FOR MRS. J.W. BARNES ON THE FARM IN THE GRANUM DISTRICT, WHERE SHE MET BILL BARNES WHO MOVED TO BINDLOSS IN 1919. BILL AND EDITH WERE MARRIED IN 1938 AND RESIDED IN THE BINDLOSS COMMUNITY UNTIL RETIRING TO CLARESHOLM IN 1968 THEN TO VULCAN IN 1978 WERE SHE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
IN HER EARLY YEARS, SHE ATTENDED SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERTS AND DANCES IN ALL THE DISTRICTS. SHE LEARNED TO DANCE AT THE MORMON CHURCH SOCIALS. AT THE AGE OF THIRTEEN, EDITH CONTRACTED RHEUMATIC FEVER WHICH LEFT HER WITH A WEAK AND DAMAGED HEART. AT A TIME OF REASONABLY GOOD HEALTH LATER IN HER LIFE, SHE HAD A SON. HER SISTER MYRTLE LIVED WITH HER TO HELP RAISE HIM AND TO DO HOUSEHOLD CHORES. EDITH WAS SO PROUD OF RON AND ALL OF HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS. SHE WAS AN AVID FAN OF HIS, ESPECIALLY WHILE HE WAS CURLING. AS LONG AS SHE WAS ABLE, SHE NEVER MISSED A GAME.
EDITH LOVED HER FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HER GRANDCHILDREN. SHE ENJOYED WORKING WITH PEOPLE ON MANY COMMUNITY OCCASIONS INCLUDING SHOWERS AND ANNIVERSARIES. SHE WAS A SELF TAUGHT CAKE DECORATOR AND HER WORK WAS PROFESSIONAL. SHE ALSO MADE SILK FLOWER CORSAGES AND DID A LOT OF EMBROIDERY. HER FAVORITE PAST TIME WAS COOKING AND PUTTING ON DINNERS. SHE ENJOYED TEACHING HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW EVERYTHING SHE KNEW ABOUT COOKING AND SHE MADE IT FUN.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER ONLY SON RON AND HIS WIFE JOYCE, THEIR CHILDREN JIM AND RHONDA, ALL OF VULCAN, A SISTER MYRTLE STEVENSON OF CARMANGAY, A NIECE AND A NEPHEW BOTH IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.
EDITH WAS PREDECEASED BY HER HUSBAND BILL IN JULY, 1990, A SISTER MARGARET PALMER, TWO BROTHERS CLAUDE AND MERLE AND HER PARENTS ALEX AND FRANCES STEVENSON.
FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY, JULY 6, 1991 AT 1:30 P.M. AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, VULCAN WITH REV. DENNIS PAAP OFFICIATING. INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE IAN BARNES, JIM SPAETH, DOUG BARNES, RON GUSSELLA, ART SCHEFFELMAIER AND DR. DOUG BARNES.
ACTIVE PALLBEARERS WERE RICHARD STEVENSON, ALLEN STEVENSON, GEORGE PIGGOTT, JACK ROEBUCK, RON PERLEY AND GARY PEPPER.
