IRVINE LEONARD DAUB PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL APRIL 30, 1991 AT THE AGE OF 82 YEARS.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. HELEN DAUB OF CHAMPION AND LOVING FATHER OF A DAUGHTER LEONE JARDINE OF CRANBROOK, FOUR GRANDSONS ROSS, KYLE, SCOTT AND PAUL, A BROTHER WILFORD (ALICE) OF LETHBRIDGE, SIX SISTERS ANNETTA GROVES OF CHAMPION, EILEEN (CLARENCE) GREEN OF MOSSLEIGH, ANNA (LORN) MAISEY, LUCY MALMBERG ALL OF HIGH RIVER, DOROTHY STRANG AND LAURA GORELL BOTH OF CALGARY, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY A BROTHER CLAYTON, A SISTER CLARA ASHMORE AND HIS PARENTS.
IRVINE WAS BORN MAY 22, 1908 AT ELMIRA, ONTARIO. HE CAME WITH HIS PARENTS, BROTHERS AND SISTERS TO THE CHAMPION AREA IN 1915 WHERE HE RECEIVED HIS SCHOOLING. HE WORKED AT MANY JOBS ALL OVER ALBERTA MOSTLY AS A MECHANIC. HE WORKED ON THE GHOST RIVER DAM AND THE ALCAN HIGHWAY PROJECTS. IRVINE MARRIED MARY HELEN HINDS IN SEPTEMBER OF 1930. IN 1931 HE BUILT AND OPERATED A GARAGE AT FARROW, THEN MOSSLEIGH AND MANY OTHER PLACES THROUGHOUT ALBERTA. WHILE IN EDMONTON HE HAD DONE SOME WORK FOR THE UNITED STATES ARMY. HE CAME TO CALGARY IN 1945 AND CONTINUED TO OPERATE A GARAGE AND SERVICE STATION. IN 1975 HE RETURNED TO CHAMPION AND BUILT THE GAS BAR AND CAR WASH WHICH HE OPERATED UNTIL HE RETIRED
IN 1982.
IRVINE LOVED HIS FAMILY AND MEETING WITH PEOPLE. WHILE SERVING ON CHAMPION VILLAGE COUNCIL HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING IN A NEW SOURCE OF WATER TO THE COMMUNITY FROM LITTLE BOW PARK. HE WAS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE PIONEER CLUB AND SERVED AS PRESIDENT FOR A TERM. HE ALSO SERVED ON THE SENIOR’S SPORTS COUNCIL AND WAS INVOLVED WITH THE BUILDING OF THE SENIOR’S DROP IN CENTRE WHERE HE ENJOYED THE FR. MARIEN COUNCIL #7327 OF THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND AS A MEMBER OF THE CHAMPION LIONS CLUB. HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP WHERE HE COULD AND WAS VERY COMMUNITY MINDED.
FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO MEET FOR PRAYERS AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, CHAMPION ON THURSDAY. MAY 2, 1991 AT 7 P.M. MASS FRIDA,Y MAY 3 AT ll A.M., ALSO AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH WITH FR. GILLES LeBLANC CELEBRANT. INTERMENT CHAMPION CATHOLIC CEMETERY.
PALLBEARERS WERE PHILIP FATH, ROBERT FATH, DALE GROVES, KEITH GROVES, MARTIN MATLOCK AND ALAN BUCHAN.
