Mercier (Windus), Sharon Diane
July 30, 1951 – September 4, 2015
Sharon Mercier, beloved Momma Bear and Grammy, passed away suddenly in her new home in Summerland, BC on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the age of 64 years.
Sharon was born and raised in Calgary, AB where at the age of fourteen she met her sweetheart and husband, Lorne, of nearly forty years and raised three daughters. She worked at the Rockyview General Hospital as a unit clerk and retired young to care deeply for Lorne with his ailing health. Subsequent to Lorne’s double lung transplant in 1999 and her daughter Lisa’s double lung transplant in 2012, Sharon actively promoted organ and tissue donation awareness with the Canadian Transplant Association. Sharon was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada in Calgary, AB and Summerland, BC. Sharon always shared her good fortune with others, especially crocheting and making raspberry jam to bless those she loved. She cared deeply for all animals and recently enjoyed many walks to the duck pond.
Sharon was predeceased by Lorne in 2010 and her daughter Lisa Gress (Jason) in 2012, along with her parents Frances and John Windus. Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Shauna Rivait (Alan) and Tina Siebert (Shaun); her grand-daughter Ally Lavigne and grand-son Linden Siebert. Sharon also left behind her brother Bill Holloway (Diane) and sister Helen Windus-Olson (Ole), along with numerous sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces,nephews and cousins which she loved dearly.
Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass celebrated at Holy Child Catholic Church (14010 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, BC) on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. All are also welcome for a Memorial Mass at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (10 Prestwick Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. A private graveside service will follow at the Town of Vulcan Cemetery on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
