HELLEVANG, OSCAR SELMER PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE DECEMBER 18, 1995 AT THE AGE OF 82 YEARS.
OSCAR WAS BORN MAY 17, 1913 AT TRIPOLI, ALBERTA NEAR MEDICINE HAT. HE ATTENDED TRIPOLI, RED CLIFF AND BRITUS SCHOOLS. HE MOVED WITH HIS PARENTS TO THE MILO DISTRICT IN 1925 AND AT THE AGE OF FOURTEEN HE BEGAN WORKING AS A JANITOR AT THE PIONEER SCHOOL, NORTH AND EAST OF MILO. UPON FINISHING SCHOOL HE HELPED HIS DAD FARMING, WITH HORSES, UNTIL THE SPRING OF 1944, WHEN THE HORSES WERE SOLD AND A NEW TRACTOR WAS PURCHASED. IN 1969 HE BUILT A HOME IN MILO AND FARMED THE HOME PLACE FROM THERE, AND AFTER SIXTY YEARS OF FARMING HE SOLD IT. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE SUNSHINE DROP-IN CENTRE AND HE ENJOYED THE SOCIAL FUNCTIONS, HIS FRIENDS THERE, PLAYING CARDS AND VISITING WITH PEOPLE. HE RENTED HIS FARM OUT AND LATER SOLD IT. AFTER SPENDING MANY YEARS IN ARIZONA, IN 1989 HE MOVED INTO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN VULCAN WHERE HE ENJOYED SEVERAL YEARS, PLAYING CARDS, GOING FOR WALKS AND VISITING, UNTIL MOVING TO EXTENDICARE IN JULY OF THIS YEAR WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
OSCAR IS SURVIVED BY TWO SISTERS MABEL (GEORGE) GOOCH OF HIGH RIVER AND HELEN (RALPH) MACKENZIE OF CARSELAND, TWO BROTHERS HAROLD (RUTH) HELLEVANG OF CALGARY AND REDVALD MUNSON OF CALIFORNIA, A BROTHER-IN-LAW PAT (ETTA) LAUGHLIN OF STRATHMORE, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS SAMSON AND ALMA HELLEVANG, TWO SISTERS RUBY WYATT AND ANNA LAUGHLIN, A BROTHER ALBERT, A BROTHER- IN-LAW FRANK WYATT, A SISTER-IN-LAW YVONNE HELLEVANG AND A NIECE ALMA MAE LUST.
FUNERAL SERVICE THURSDAY DECEMBER 21, 1995 AT 1:30 P.M. AT MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH REV. CHRISTINE SELBSTAEDT OFFICIATING.
