CALLIE OMA CLEVER ( nee: MYERS) PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT THE VULCAN EXTENDICARE ON AUGUST 11, 1996 AT THE AGE OF 95 YEARS.
OMA WAS BORN JUNE 24, 1901 AT CONDON, OREGON. SHE MOVED WITH HER PARENTS AND THREE BROTHERS BY COVERED WAGON TO HIGH RIVER ARRIVING IN THE SUMMER OF 1905 AND WORKED ON THE BILL McMULLEN PLACE AS PART OF THE THRESHING CREW. LATER IN THE FALL THEY MOVED TO THE HOMESTEAD IN THE BERRYWATER DISTRICT. THEY LIVED IN TENTS THROUGH THE WINTER UNTIL FEBRUARY AS THEY WERE WARMER THAN IN THE HOUSE, AS THE TENTS WERE COVERED WITH SNOW EXCEPT THE DOORWAYS. OMA WORKED FOR A TIME AT THE VULCAN POST OFFICE AND THEN AT THE CHAMPION TELEPHONE OFFICE. SHE MET AND MARRIED FRED CLEVER IN 1919 AND TOGETHER THEY FARMED AT CHAMPION UNTIL MOVING TO CALGARY IN THE 1950’s. FRED PASSED AWAY IN 1970 AND OMA CONTINUED TO RESIDE IN CALGARY UNTIL MOVING TO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN 1975. SHE MOVED TO THE PYAMI LODGE AT PICTURE BUTTE IN 1980, THEN IN 1990 MOVED BACK TO VULCAN EXTENDICARE WERE SHE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
OMA LOVED HER FAMILY. SHE ENJOYED DOING HAND CRAFTS INCLUDING CROCHETING, KNITTING, LEATHER WORK, FLOWER ARRANGING, MAKING DOLLS, WOOLEN DOGS, COPPER WORK AND MAKING DOILIES.
LOVING MOTHER TO A DAUGHTER LOURETTA (DAVE) CAUSEY OF CHAMPION, GRANDMOTHER OF LaREE JONES OF PENTICTON AND THREE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN ANGELA (GORDON) WILTSE OF WHITE ROCK AND TWINS LISA JONES AND LEROY JONES BOTH OF PENTICTON.
SHE WAS PREDECEASED BY HER HUSBAND FRED IN 1970, THREE BROTHERS MURL, HAROLD “SHORTY” AND JOHN AND HER PARENTS ARTHUR AND CALLIE MYERS.
FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD THURSDAY AUGUST 15, 1996 AT 2 P.M. AT CHAMPION UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. DON WATT OFFICIATING.
