CONRAD “CON” PETERSON, OF VULCAN, FORMERLY OF MILO, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN, ALBERTA ON APRIL 19, 1996 AT THE AGE OF 89 YEARS.

CON WAS BORN MAY 1, 1906 AT RIBLAKE, WISCONSIN. HE WAS ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN OF SIX BROTHERS AND FIVE SISTERS. HE ATTENDED CORBY HILL SCHOOL, AND HE WORKED ON HIS FATHERS FARM. THE HOMESTEAD WAS NEAR SLICKUP LAKE. THE LAKE GOT IT’S NAME BECAUSE WHEN THE COWBOYS CAME FROM THE LOMOND AND ARMADA LEASES, THEY WOULD GO DOWN TO THE LAKE TO GET “SLICKED-UP” TO GO TO MILO. HE PURCHASED LAND FROM HIS FATHER AND THE OLD McINTYRE HOUSE, WHICH WAS MOVED TO THE NEW FARMSTEAD, THAT WAS ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE LAKE RIGHT ON THE CORNER OF THE ARMADA ROAD. HE MET AND MARRIED LILLIAN PORTER IN CALGARY IN 1936. TOGETHER THEY FARMED FOR MR. O’TOTT ON HIS FARM AT MAJORVILLE FOR THREE YEARS AND THEN RETURNED TO THE FARMSTEAD EAST OF MILO.

IN JUNE OF I947, CON TOOK UP FLYING. HIS FIRST PLANE WAS AN ARONKA SUPERCHIEF. HE LATER PURCHASED SKIS FOR IT WHICH ALLOWED MORE USE OF HIS PLANE. IN THE WINTER, WHEN THE ROADS WERE IMPASSABLE AND PEOPLE WERE SNOWED IN, HE WOULD FLY IN MAIL AND GROCERIES TO THEM. ONE OF MANY INCIDENTS WAS WHEN MRS. McLEOD OF BOW CITY WAS SNOWED IN WITH A BROKEN ANKLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. CON FLEW IN, PICKED HER UP AND TOOK HER TO VULCAN FOR MEDICAL HELP. IN 1956 HE PURCHASED A CESSNA 170. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE FLYING FARMERS AND THEY FLEW TO CONVENTIONS AND ANYWHERE THEY DESIRED.

AS WELL AS FARMING, CON WAS THE JOHN DEERE AGENT FOR TEN YEARS AND DROVE TRUCK FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. HE RETIRED FROM FARMING IN 1969 AND CONTINUED TO RESIDE ON THE HOME PLACE UNTIL THEY MOVED INTO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN VULCAN IN JULY OF 1995 WERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

CON WAS A MEMBER OF THE ODD FELLOWS LODGE, LIONS CLUB AND ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, HE SERVED AS A MEMBER OF THE CALGARY HIGHLANDS ARMY RESERVE, A MEMBER OF BENEVOLENT PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS AND MILO CURLING CLUB. CON AND LIL ENJOYED CAMPING AND WERE MEMBERS OF THE MILO ROVERS CAMPION CLUB AND THE BUFFALO HILLS CAMPING CLUB.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF LIL PETERSON OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER OF A DAUGHTER CAROL (DANNY) TIEGEN OF MILO, TWO SONS BARRY (SHEILA) OF CALGARY, JIM (DENE) OF MILO, NINE GRANDCHILDREN; THERESA (BOB) HATT, TERRY (JODY) TIEGEN, PATTY TIEGEN, LAURA TIEGEN, DWAYNE (VERNA) , DARREN (LORNA), STACEY (DARREN) STOKES, SHERRY AND MICHAEL, ELEVEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN; JASON, DERECK, RANDY TESSA, AMBER, RACHELLE, BRIAN, CHRISTOPHER, PATRICK, STEVEN AND FORD, A SISTER NELSIE ROBERTSON OF VULCAN, AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

CON WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER NELS, MOTHER HULDA, FOUR SISTERS, FIVE BROTHERS AND A GRANDSON LARRY TIEGEN IN 1993.

FUNERAL SERVICE MONDAY APRIL 22, 1996 AT 2 P.M. AT MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH DON HOLMES L.M. OFFICIATING. INTERMENT O PERFECT PEACE CEMETERY, MILO.

HONORARY BEARERS BOB DEITZ, KEN BJORNSON, GEORGE GOOCH, ART FOSTER AND SONNY VANNATTA.

CASKET BEARERS DARREN PETERSON, JASON TIEGEN, TERRY TIEGEN, MICHAEL PETERSON, STACEY STOKES AND PATTY TIEGEN.
